According to the material spec sheet, it has a Rockwell hardness (M scale) of 77.  Pretty soft, as one might expect.

The only thing the clear part actually does is hold the filter and the basket.

Unless you force it to (and I have been) no coffee or water even touch it.

So it probably doesn't need to be super extra heavy duty. What I like most about it is how snug it fits into the base without any gaskets.
