I believe the huky can handle a pound.

Thanks, Aaron. That would be more than enough ... at least for me.

Not only can it hold a pound, it can still roast in reasonable times. My coffee quality really improved with it. The level of control is amazing. And I fret less.

I must say I am tempted to check one out.  Joe and John, you should get an advertising residual from the Huky folks.  Hey John, when you are ready to move up, can I buy this one like your old Hottop?  ;D

Hang tight Peter, John was caught asking the question when we saw a couple 2lb sonofresco’s at the coffee shop next to Denver biscuit.

The question was..how much does that cost? It’s only a matter of time now ;)

That was a neat air cooler that John had. I wonder how that works?

This was a great demo.   I assume this is JohnF's toy ?
Is this the solid or perforated mesh drum option ?

Was the fan speed control a DIY or OEM ? The idea of just having enough airflow to move the smoke along during the roast is a good idea (IMO), then bumping it up for cooling of course.  Is the cooling rate adequate ?

That was a neat air cooler that John had. I wonder how that works?

 ???

The Huky T500 is Taiwanese, ~$1300USD (+ extras), is reputed to do 500g (grams) or 1.1.lbs.  Uses a heat source -- the IR propane cooker seems to be the common choice, but has some complaints wrt lack of tight flame/temp control.

The fan/blower unit is from the OEM. Not sure abt the speed control.

I was disappointed to see the beans not falling into the drum at startup.  Having to do the lift/shake thing. That's a design flaw.   I've also read that the blower/cooler can blow some beans out of the unit !

The fan control is a $10 modification wired between the primary exhaust fan and the outlet. Took 1 minute to do. The fan sucks air/smoke through the machine, through the fan, then out the hose. There really isn't a way for it to suck beans out of the drum. The cooling rate is adequate for me. Way better than a Behmor. A second cooler is recommended to cool as the primary fan then does all venting duties.

I don't have beans sticking in the fill-tube. Others might.  I puff a little air into the tube between batches to eliminate any chaff that ends up there.  There isn't a need to pick that sucker up when its hot.

The gas valve on the front precise enough for me. When I dial it to whatever # I want, it's there. Doesn't wander. I have it hooked to a 20lb LP gas can and it's been running for since May on the first tank. I start a roast on 5/6 after the turning point and finish on 0.25.   Gets hotter than what I need as I've never had to run it on 7.
