A Lesson in Persistance..........
« on: March 12, 2012, 09:07:42 PM »
I lay here tonight a victorious man. After years of daily online searching, today I found my 4 barrel Jabez Burns sample roaster. I found it online, and within 30 minutes was in my truck driving the 8 hours round-trip to pick it up. Now I'm home, it's in my shop, and I'm smiling.

Good for you! Where did you have to go to get it? How did you go about finding it? I look every week for Jabez Burns, Barth, and Gothot sample roasters and I have for the past 4-5 years. I have only found 2 for sale on craigslist.

One was in Oakland, California, was a 4-barrel and the person wanted $800 . . . . Guess who bought that?!? Sweetmarias. The second was about a year ago, in Metro Chicago, it was a 3-barrel and they were asking $3,000. I would consider both to be a deal. It seems like refurbished ones fetch about $3k-$4k per barrel.

My Methods: Everyday I do a nationwide Search Tempest search for "coffee roaster." Whenever I find any commercial roaster for sale, I email the person selling to inquier if they happen to have a sample roaster they are selling. Most people get annoyed, but yesterday I got this response: "I have a four barrel Jabez Burns, $4000." I ended up grabbing outside of Philly. I paid $3700.

Pictures or it didn't happen.   :P

Seriously, though, congratulations on a great score.

It's not cleaned up yet, but whatever, those pics can come later.

EDIT:  I went ahead and turned it rightside up for you, hope you don't mind... Aaron
