I tried the den this morning..... started with the shark blade..... ouch I know why they call it a shark.   Very painful, lots of razor burn 2 nicks.... not good with this razor.  then onto the sandlewood I like the smell of it.

Boy does that shark need to see a dentist.

I have the shave den now, thank you very much Kahvemicro for sending it along! There is a lot of stuff in there. It will take me a few weeks to get through it all, but then it will be ready for the next in line.

Thank you MP. Who provided the shave brush? I used it with Py's Clubmen cream tonight and the TTO Gilette  and really liked it, though I don't think the TTO was as good as the Edwin Jagger.

What animal are those bristles from? I don't really care about what animal it is, I'd just like to find something similar for myself, and then pass this one along for others to try.

Thank you,
-Paul

Paul ... glad to hear the Jagger stacked up well against the Gillette TTO.

Could that brush be a Badger? I have one of those and it provides the best lather.

I don't know how to figure that out. It might be.

The only things I know about badgers are that they are considered very aggressive and fearless (you've seen the honey-badger video on YouTube?), and that I'd like to buy one for my ex-wife.  "Hi Honey, here's your Badger!" I'll bring the cage next week!! ;)

I don't know how to identify their fur.

I hope this will explain the different types of badger brushes available and what they look like.

I think this is the badger youtube vidso you are referring to.

The brush looks like the "Best" in your line-up. I'm surprised, not because you nailed it, but because that is a nice item to add to the "den." Very nice.

Yes, that is the video, but it originally came with some campy and NSFW commentary:

Again NSFW!

When you said that it you really liked the brush I assumed that it was a badger. I got mine off of eBay for around $15 shipped from China and worth every cent. I never did try a boar but I have a couple of horse hair brushes and they do the job.

I liked your version of the video as it was more complete. Those badgers sure like their snakes.

There is a lot of nice stuff in this kit. I was too scared to try the straights (and frankly I have no interest in taking the time to learn how to use them, as we have better options than 19th century technology now - no offense PY!), but have learned a lot about what I like. Much better having a package like this than relying on Amazon reviews.

So who is next? PM me and the Yakster to let me know where I should send it! I've added some Astra Platinum and Gilette Personna blades for anyone interested.

-Paul

P.S. John's (joke on his part) "Shark" blades are still there, for anyone brave enough to try them! From what I've read, it is as if you caught a shark, and then tried to shave with his jaws. I was too pansy to try those blades, but maybe someone else will?!? If Quint were still around I'd guess he would have tried them, and would probably have gotten a clean shave.  ;)

That's the thing with shaving ... some blades may work for someone, but others not so much.

So who wants the next shipment of the traveling den here? There is a lot of good stuff in there. It is currently sitting in the vanity in my bathroom.  PM me and leave a note here, and I will have it out in the mail pronto!
