Saw one of these in a kitchen store in Duluth. Should have grabbed it. I ordered one from Koffee Klatch.
Silicone, BPA free, flattens. Great for travel -toss it into the suitcase. Holds #1-#6 Melitta paper filters. Make a cup or a liter. Can handle dishwasher, high heat.
Here's the deal. Post to the thread if interested. I will close this out in 2 weeks or when we get 10 players. Cost per player is listed. No money now. I will let you know when we close it out (cost involves PayPal). Keep it one week, post a review. Then, mail it on.
I will have Jim Spain draw a random number. That person will be pulled out of order, reinserted last on the list and get to keep the filter. Jump in!

What the hell, count me in.

Just had a note from Koffee Klatsch. They just shipped it. Let's get to 10 and get this puppy on the road.

Where else would you put this?

Got it. Yes, depending upon what size filter you are using, you roll up/down the filter accordingly. It is a simple, yet brilliant design, fully collapsible. We can put it up against ceramics and see how it cups out.

I guess I better get in on this... I may have to take over another cabinet or get my own kitchen ??

Bump - let's get 3 additional folks in on this and we can close it out.

It would be interesting to compare it to something like this which is a collapsible wire frame filter holder that fits in a canvas pouch. I just haven't found these anywhere but Asia.
http://www.0141coffee.com/dorip/caffeebanet.html (http://www.0141coffee.com/dorip/caffeebanet.html)
I've seen that one before.. $24 plus shipping seems a little much for a coil of wire but I would love to have a week to play with it (and some SS wire)

My brother works for a Japanese company and he is talking with a couple of his coworkers about getting me one or more of these brewers. I've tried to navigate the website, but Google translate fails when the the pages switch to secure areas like the shopping cart.
One of his good friends is actually on vacation in Japan and I think he is going to try and bring some back with him when he returns to the states. One is going in my personal collection, but if I get any extra I'll offer them up here, probably as a traveling road show offering.

The RSVP Silicone Cone hit the porch today.
-
About an 1.25 deep, when folded, with the bottom drain portion projecting to 2."
-
Let's see, 6.25" across.
-
5 Port Holes - should drain well.
-
Unfolded
-
With a #2 Melitta
-
With a #4. I don't have #6s but it is advertised as accommodating #s 1-6.
I will wash it up and put it through its paces tomorrow. Another day without the Cremina <face with tear running down cheek>. BPA free. I am curious to see if silicone taste appears in cup.
All I have gotten out of this generous traveling roadshow offer is a peanut gallery (Howdy Doody days) comment of "how come you never win anything?"
Need 3 more players.

Had to get out the back door this morning.
Pro:
1. Excellent cup. No silicone off-flavor.
2. Fits neatly on a 10-oz cup or a liter thermos like I used this morning. Multiple applications.
3. The paper filter fits neatly into the cone - well seated on the sides. (Note: I always fold the heavy seam back, both on the bottom and the heavier side).
4. Drains very well; not too fast, not too slow. Kept up with the pour and allowed some steep as well.
5. Easy to use.
6. Easy clean-up.
7. Great "to-go" cone. One slap and it collapses to 2" for suitcase or back-pack. Ideal for "carrying-out camping," or Holiday Inn pourovers.
Con:
1. Need two hands to move it as it is flexible. (One hand to move a ceramic).
2. Have to peek to see the level at which the coffee is in the receptacle (Beehouse has peek holes).
Two thumbs up. A keeper.

OK, thanks to Mz James Spain, we have a winner. She picked, #7. Lo and behold, Aaron becomes a winner in one easy draw. Congrats to Aaron and thanks to Mz Spain.
So, send those cards and letters, but don't forget the $2.75 via PayPal to dave at sidewalkmystic dot. I will get the item moving to ModelMaker once he provides mailing address.
I have added 20 white Melitta paper filters of 3 sizes - #2, #4, and #6. Feel free to use two of each. If you run short, you know the bozo in front of you got greedy.
I will type up some directions for those not used to a pourover arrangement and include that in the package. Don't use the list as a paper filter. That is what the enclosed filters are for. Here is the mailing list.

Wow, I wasn't expecting to win it. I will definately use it. I have plans for my boat and making coffee there with a propane burner and something to heat water in.
I wonder how this will cup out against a swiss gold... In case ya all havent figured it out already, I love the SG's I like a bit of 'body' in my coffee which paper tends to filter out. We will see but I have a feeling this will do good, when I finally do get it.
Thanks again.

This goes out priority mail to BLZFN in the morning. I wanted to include some #6 Melitta whites for you to try as well. Snagged a box on the way home this afternoon. There are enough filters for each of you to use 2 of each of these, #2, #4, #6, ascending in size. They are Melitta whites and you can grab at many grocery stores and ACE Hardware stores.
1. Use the US Post bubble flat rate envelope, over and over. You can't get one at the post; special order. The postage is $4.95 for you line waiters or cheaper if you print it on line. You can drop it in any post box IF you have a printed label from USPS.
2. How to make the brew.
- Paper filter has a crimped bottom and crimped on one side.
- Fold those crimps back so that filter is seated well.
- Water should be 20-30 seconds off boil, 195-205*
- **Rinse the paper filter with boiling water and arrange it neatly on the cone** (absolutely critical)
- Use a ratio of about 1 oz water to 2 grams of coffee, drip grind (strong side - experiment and adjust ratio to your taste preferences)
- Bloom the coffee. Just enough water to wet the grinds. Let infuse/bloom for 20 - 30 seconds.
- Begin pouring again, slowly. Use a circular pour, working your way out to edge. Stay away from outer 1/8" inch (Rasqual, no reading this).
- Don't drown the beans. Let the filter holes stay ahead of you.
You are working for a 2-3 minute pour, dependent upon grind, taste, and volume. Experiment.
Most importantly, share back here what you learned. What did you like about the cup? How would this fit into your arsenal? Can you recommend it to others. It is a winner in my book:
^ Unbreakable.
^ Can do 10 oz- 1 liter
^ Easily tossed into suitcase for travel
^ No off tastes
^ Drains beautifully
^ Great cup
I will grab one the next opportunity I have.

Woohoo! I had a very busy week after moving the office and tomorrow is our busiest day of the year, "Customer Appreciation Day", so a little personal coffee time in my new office with the RSVP, Hario grinder and electric kettle ought to help give me the energy to rebound next week. This will be my first true pourover experience (I have used the Clever as a pourover to brew into the airpot at work when the coffee maker went down) and I can't wait! ;D
-
The eagle has landed. It is already loaded with a Melitta #6 awaiting 54g of Yemen Moka Sharasi and 30 oz of hot water in the morning. I can't wait to mess it up! :o
I will also be taking it to work to brew a cup at a time so I should get a small feel for its versatility.
-
Quick review- I used the RSVP twice today. Once, as mentioned, for my morning coffee (didn't need the #6 filter for 30oz, could have easily gotten away with a #4) and again at the office using my Hario Skerton and Bodum Ibis kettle. The morning brew I had to use the bottom of my Yama vac pot to pour as I wasn't confident I could control the flow with our tea pot. I preheated everything and managed to bloom for 30 sec, pour for another 2 min, and finish the entire process in about 4 min. The coffee turned out pretty good, but with a slight off flavor from the Yemen coffee. I made a mental note to see if it would re-appear later. The afternoon cup was 2 scoops of whole El Salvador Las Mercedes Pacamera into the hario set to a very fine, but not espresso grind. I had to guesstimate the pour volume and continually poured then lifted the RSVP to see where I was at. Total pour time, including 30 sec bloom, was again about 2:30 with total brew time of 3:30. This cup had no noticeable flaws so I will either rack up the morning off-taste to too young of a roast or just an odd trait of the Yemen coffee.
Summary - It makes a good cup. Better than my other brewers? Maybe, maybe not. I do like the mobility (size and material), versatility and ease of use. I don't like that I can't see what is going on in the cup so either constant lifting or a scale/ measuring cup(which eliminates travel-ease) is required. Overall I would give it 4 out of 5 stars.
The big test will be this weekend where it will take on both my stand-by single cup brewers (Aeropress and CCD) as well as my weekend warriors (Yama 8 cup siphon and 6 cup press).
-
Good review, Dave. Those that are new to pourovers, make sure you are rinsing the paper filter with boiling water before adding the coffee to the RSVP. (Repeating myself, I know).

Well I am done playing with this toy. I did a side-by-side-by-side experiment with my CCD and Aeropress and for taste results it landed in the middle. The Aeropress won with the cup coming through very clean and bright, the RSVP cup was well balanced but lacked the acidity (could be my technique as I don't have a fancy kettle) and the CCD came up right behind the RSVP with a lighter cup which could probably be fixed with a longer steep or finer grind. As for ease of use the RSVP comes in last of the three, requiring the most attention and being the most finicky about grind and technique. Overall I will stick with my rating of 4 out of 5 stars.
Pros-
* Versatile, can make from 1 - 10 cups of coffee maybe more (I didn't try)
* Small size, in a kitchen that is already cramped with other coffee toys it helps that this can be collapsed and stored in the back of any cupboard
* Made of silicone, hard to break and my family is good at breaking things
Cons-
* Requires a dedicated kettle, as does any pourover brewer, for proper technique
* Can't see what is going on in the cup
* Not going to win any beauty pageants
I will be sending this on to modelmaker as soon as I get his address and I look forward to seeing other reviews, especially those that have other pourovers to compare it to. I won't be running to buy any pourovers in the near future as I am pretty satisfied with my Bunn NHBX which makes a similar cup with minimal effort.
-
Send it onto the next one please, I'll be in San Francisco for week this week and I don't want it just sitting here
Thanks

just returned from Montreal and could not, could not find a simple Melitta cone anywhere
all over the city until I found it at St Henry Cafe. Every store/market stocks Melitta filters but
no cones. So for 2 weeks, I was using a collapsible silicone funnel.
I will have to get an RSVP...
-
Any updates Steve? I see you were on this morning at 3am. ???
-
The RSVP. I will be ordering one this weekend. I was surprised with the size of this pourover. I guess I hadn't paid attention to the original description. I travel ALOT and like the collapsibility but I have no need to make more than my travel mug at a time. It looked like it would cut down easily so, I will be cutting mine down to fit a #4 filter. I was impressed that there was no off taste from the rubber/silicone or release agents. I felt it made a very clean cup.
Thanks,
Steve

silicon sieve coffee dripper is in the house... first run was a cup of coffee... had a nice time on the drip rate.. I suspect I may want a courser grind for a pot of coffee through a #6 filter.. traveling and large capacity brewing are what I am attracted to in this product.. if there was ever any taste from the silicon or any release agent.. its gone by now.. it was a good cup.. lighter and brighter than my usual Clever or Sowden full immersion prep.. more details on the way

Yepper Yosemite, as for Yogi and Bobo there are a few apple trees in camp so no pick-a-nic basket problems . More worried about the neighbor NPS park ranger named Ranger Smith LOL.
The river is perfect for fly fishing right now so today after work it's up the canyon I go.

I got it in the mail today. It will probably be the weekend before I try it. We just went into outage mode at work and it's going to be very busy. Weekend will probably be only time I can actually relax a bit and enjoy it and see how it does. I might even bring it into work monday and do a pot or two there and see how everyone else likes the coffee and report back.
