making a change to the Rossi 45
« on: September 24, 2010, 10:19:44 PM »
I am planning on converting my Grindmaster (rebadged Rossi rr45) from the 48 stop regulator ring it has currently:

http://www.precisiontamp.com/product/RO2720/Rossi-Semi-automatic-Regulator-Ring.html

to the 80 slot regulator ring:

http://www.precisiontamp.com/product/RO6011/Rossi-Automatic-Grind-Adjustment-Collar.html

I will need to change the regulator stopping pin

http://www.precisiontamp.com/product/RO2635/Rossi-Regulator-Regulator-Ring-Stopping-Pin.html

to the regulator stopping pin that goes with the 80 slot ring.

http://www.precisiontamp.com/product/RO6003/Rossi-Automatic-Regulator-Ring-Stopping-Pin.html

so far so good right?

I am told I need to get new screws as the current screws won't fit. I need to find 3 by 20 mm screw (preferably hex head) and having a fine pitch.

well I have found a few candidates, but was looking for some help deciding which is likely to work:

Where's the thermocouple going to be mounted?

Right under the inlet bearing, of course.

Py,

Do you know why the new screws won't fit?  If it's only a matter of length, then I would try to take the old ones to a good hardware store, have them match the thread and go longer.

I'm not familiar enough w/ metric to know if they actually have a fine pitch thread.  SAE threads have normal and fine, but I've never heard of anyone referring to metrics like that.  I'd suggest calling a couple of those websites you listed and picking their brain.  The screws listed are all cheap enough that you could buy a few different sizes.  I'd also suggest the socket head screws instead of the hex head.

The last thought would be to simply leave the grinder as it is.  Not to start a war, but stepless is overrated.

Well, I have already ordered the parts.  ;D Including new burrs.

I am not really going stepless. Just making the steps smaller.

Taking the current screws to the hardware store seems awful reasonable (Doh!).

Got to make this grinder work or my wife will think I wasted my money.

Too bad my tamper hasn't shown up yet.

I'm all ears to hear how this works out for you, PY. My RR45 could definitely use more steps. (Looks over shoulder, whispers guiltily...) Sometimes I have to resort to varying the tamp to get a decent flow rate.

In the infinitely capable hands of a Pyment, plastic is more than adequate.

Remind us what you're pulling shots with; I thought you had a super-automatic.  ?

I sold the super-auto last week.

I was sure you would pick up on this:

It just arrived Friday and I was out of town this weekend. So, I haven't had much of a chance to play with it.

This is the wrong thread.

You started that other one a little while back.

Seriously, congratulations.  I hope the end result is what you're hoping for.
