How does a sono roast?
Amazing

Does it turn out bright batches like a giant poppery?
It can, but you have 9 presets of light to dark and some people hack it and do their own thing. No me, the presets work good.

Can you profile much with it?
As much as I need.

Can it roast one lb finished weight to the first few snaps of second crack in under 13min?

Roast yes, cooling no, it takes about 3-5 min to cool. The best part is that you don't have to stare at the roaster and hope that you know what you are doing. It's automated so you can fold laundry and stuff while your roast is going.

The price sounds ridiculously too good to be true. The one lb US is about $6k the SF much more.
Exactly, used sonofresco's are a good deal used. You have to figure about $150/year in maintenance. There is monthly cleaning that you must do and daily cleaning as well. But I have never needed a reason to bake my coffee in a sc/to ;D just kidding Peter.

Sonofrescos suck.

(Joe's been in too good a mood the last couple days, so I had to sneak that in there)

Are you toying with the idea of making some money selling roasted coffee, John?

sc/to's bake ;D I was gonna say that your Ambex is a little better than baked coffee. There goes any thoughts for me to get an Ambex...That's funny

Here's a new kid on the block that looks very promising at this price point, the Kaldi home-roaster.  A moderator on another forum I frequent is a commercial roaster and bought one of these for samples and loves it.

Is this thing real?

I actually like it but it looks like a 1/2lb roaster. I only watched 30 seconds of the vid so far but it looks tiny.

John,

I've never used a Huky but a few folks here with the club have them and love it!  I considered a Huky before I bought my 1.5 drum due to great reviews. I just "wanted" a larger capacity.

Didn't Susan Huck it up recently?  Lots of folks on Home-Barista swear by the Hucky.

I'm going to read all the threads. It looks pretty good at quick glance.

If you can wait another couple weeks, Susan will be selling hers.
