From the Left Coast Vendor.  Well done on the review of the machine but no discussion of the resulting bean.  Needs a chapter 2.

Sounds like it is a very capable roaster.

For $1k I would like it to do bigger batches than 200g.  I'm able to do 340g easily with my UFO/GG combo with very good results and even with the thermocouples and router controller I think I am in this thing for less than $125.

According to this the batch capacity is 300 grams.

"We are going to have a small electric sample roaster soon called the Quest that is worth looking at. We will post that in about 2 weeks... -Tom"

An update: the Quests are here and we are hoping to list them this week. I think the idea is to list them on CoffeeShrub.com because they fall into a commercial category (well, being that they are not automated at all, and don't have the safety features of a home machine either). I am actually waiting to board a plant to Oslo for the Nordic Barista Cup, which includes a N. Europe roaster gathering, and I have a Quest M3 in checked baggage! Hopefully the transformer that my friends at Kaffa come up with will do the job. I know it needs 800w absolute minimum (not running the heaters at full power), 1000w would be better, and 1200 watts would be best. We'll see. I plan to make some video of it as I roast all these Colombia micro lot samples I brought. -Tom

A 6.5 ounce, or about 1.25 cups by volume batch size for $ 1200?  Hmmm.

My reaction as well.   Might make sense as a sampler roaster for a business compared to the cost of the standard sample roaster.  I have seen Hottops and Genes sitting in two labs of shops that put out decent roasts.

A gas sample roaster for that batch size will run $3-6k.  Could be a real nice niche as a sample roaster.

Tempted, but I think a 2k would be more appropriate for my needs.
