Show me your Purty Vintage Vac Pot
« on: February 12, 2011, 11:08:03 AM »
A while back I picked up a beautiful vintage Silex at an estate sale.  I love the old vacuums, so elegant.  If anyone has pictures to show off theirs please followup.

Let's start with this one, shall we? It was a wedding gift to my grandma & grandpa back in the late 20's. She gave it to me in the 60's and I've been using it ever since.

Very nice.  That looks identical to the one I have; however I believe mine is missing the upper chambers handle and definitely the lid.

I also have one like this (This one is from Brian Harris collection), except mine has the Silex Lox-In filter rod. All of my collection is original, with the exception that one or two have replacement gaskets.

They've got a monopoly on Sunbeam vac pot gaskets, and their prices reflect that - $25 for 15¢ worth of silicone! I suppose we're supposed to be so thankful for the gaskets that we ignore their price gouging?

I'm willing to ignore it if it works...... My dad runs a thrift shop and picked it up for free.  I also have a stainless steel stovetop that works great.  He also pick up a glass perculator, not using it looks nice on the shelf.
