« on: September 27, 2011, 04:42:55 PM »
I am considering purchasing this one for a refurb. but it was given to the current owner and he knows nothing about it and there are no plaques or identifying marks except GAGGIA.

I'd have to see more - can you remove the top panel and shoot pics down into it? Also, pics of the group would help identify it.

This machine is in another town about 3 hours from me. I had a friend go take a look and take a few pictures but there really wasn't anything good in the pictures. The bottom line is I bought it for what I think was a reasonable price (small risk) and I will get a good look at it soon.
Thanks Tex

Oh crap - it's a Gaggia Asso-Tronic, the oddest bunch of boilers & tubing I've ever seen! Getting parts for it will be iffy at best. Here are some links that might help.

Ascaso parts catalog boilers.

Really old Coffee Geek thread.

Google search for images.

EPNW does has steam boiler elements!

edited: Most of the links that might help are very old & very German.

Thanks Tex, the only pictures i could find were of the Asso but they were all single group. I guess this would be a 2group Asso. Where these produced in the 80 or 90s?

Mid to late 80's? I know they predate my Bunn/Futurmat by a few years.

Ever watch Pawn Stars, where the rare book and small arms experts chide the guys for buying something without checking with them first? Ahem...

Duly noted Tex. I was exited by the Gaggia logo, the sturdiness, the challenge, and it was only $100.
We'll see how I feel about it in a few months. :D

Hey, it is a dual boiler machine! As long as the elements are good, the auto-fill works for the steam boiler, and there are no holes in the boilers you should be able to get it working. That's the neat thing about semi-auto machines - they're drop dead simple. I am curious about what the amp drain is for 3 separate heating elements; it is a 220 VAC machine, right?

If it works, I'd be tempted to PID the two brew boilers individually. That would be so cool!

Good luck!

That would be cool. Now all I need is a manual. I have never used a commercial machine.

There's another Asso on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gaggia-Asso-Commercial-Espresso-Machine-/120784713177

That's funny; I haven't seen an Asso in years (well, there are one or two that do come to mind), and two show up almost simultaneously. Go figure!

That really is odd. I will be interested to see what it goes for.
I followed all the German links and translated with Google translate, it was only marginally helpful. I did however find a German parts supplier. Thanks for the links
