Toastess 57-ounce Glass Kettle
« on: October 18, 2011, 05:13:57 AM »
Returned the Saeco plastic kettle.  Did a ton of reading - kettle reviews.  Settled on an all-glass one, with a stainless steel base covering the heating element.  No plastic in contact with the water.  Water level is marked on the handle, avoiding a plastic tube to render water level readings.  Would have enjoyed a kettle with a "hold at 200*" feature but those all seemed to have issues.  Truth is, rarely would I use the application.

57 ounces.  Comes from Toastess, a Canadian outfit - this unit made in China.  Review in the next couple of weeks.

Wow, you sound like me! I love reviewing products and researching but dang does it make it hard to find something I like.

I was thinking a kettle might be a nice addition:)

That one sounds interesting.

It should have at least resolved the plastic taste.

Await your review.

Worse - even after I purchase, still read up.  OCD-lite.

+1 but I bought the older model direct from Pino for $30.

First quick look, Toastess.

Pro:
All glass, not even a plastic water level indicator.
Heating element contained in stainless steel.
Heats water to 200* +.
Quick. Boils 57 ounces in 7 minutes.

Con:
Top of kettle and electrical base are flimsy.
Design - kettle weight/shape of kettle/angle and size of handle not ergonomic
Will continue to boil if top isn't seated securely

Would I buy again?  Not sure.  Doubtful, though I will keep it.

Thermostat began to intermittently fail; kettle just boils and boils on occasion.  Returned for full credit.

Ordered a Pino digital kettle from SM's.  Should have started there.

You could save yourself $40 and buy the Pino Express. The temp is in Celsius but who really cares?
