With an efficient roaster and good agitation it's possible to roast a finished lb with a nice profile and 1400watts. the fan and drum motor don't use much power. Adding an afterburner puts power consumption over the top.

The quest gets 1300+ watts, and is noticeably better at sub 200g loads, with some faster profiles needing 165g.  It would take substantially more convection heat to get to a pound, I don't think a drum is very practical there. (electric 1lb)

If not what?

My guess is that it's easier to roll a drum than loft an lb.

That may be the secret.  The current Hottop does loose a lot of heat and have iffy agitation.  Even if the 1lb model roasts 350g I'd be mildly interested.  Unless someone has a 1kg at the same price.

Been roasting at 215g - 230g.  While 350g would be an improvement, not sure I'd upgrade for imo a small
incremental batch upgrade.  430g capacity then def.

Eric, its easier than that, just pick up a gas heated dryer, replace the plastic bits and hack the computer.  Voila, instant half bag coffee roaster!

I tried that; can't adjust the temps well enough to follow any kind of profile.

Well, not really.  But that is the reason I wouldn't try it.

They work OK, but the cool down is a bit slow. Maytag works best!

Good thing you're in charge of the laundry in the Harmon household.  I doubt that Mrs. T would let you get away with that if she knew about it.   8)

The dryer vents the smoke outside too.
