Mahlkonig EK43 Grinder

Lots of buzz out there on this originally designed for spice grinder.  Sprudge has a long article extolling its virtues and H-B has picked up a discussion about it.  Seems that Kyle Glanville and Chas Babinski have gone to them in their LA shops for both espresso and pourovers. 98mm burrs.

Have to get our own LeftCoast cup reporter, Yakster, down there for a 1st-hand review:  C&G Coffee:

Anecdotes suggest that it is the uniformity of grind (flying in the face of "fines are needed for the best espresso") is the key to its clarity of presenting the best flavors:

"  ... Evidence is pointing to the EK43 as having the most modal grind distribution of all grinders. The grinds are all mostly the same size.
All we really knew about fines before Ben Kaminsky came along was that they were cell wall particles and a coffee cell is about 50microns (a micron is 1000th of a mm)...."

Anyone seen one in action?

Ask and you shall receive.

Stopped at Spyhouse's new location in Northeast while I was out grabbing the Kenyans from the broker.  Guess what they are using for espresso grinds?  You guessed it.

Talked with their roaster, Tony, as I have cupped Guat COEs with him. They are two weeks away from their new roaster and the Verve, Grumpy's and Kickapoo will go away.  The grinder is marked but stepless.  He loves it for uniformity in the grind and the clarity of flavors which it presents.  Will we see some Super Jollys appear on eBay soon?
