Bodum Bistro Machine
« on: May 29, 2014, 05:29:16 AM »
Was reading coffee machine reviews this morning and bumped into the Bodum Bistro, a machine I have never heard mentioned on these boards.  This site has it besting Bonavita in a head2head:  http://gizmodo.com/5885503/the-best-automatic-coffee-machine

Note the caveat:  "Consider that everybody loved our control coffee—a cup manually brewed with a $15 Clever dripper—better than either of the machines by a sizeable margin."

Anyone used one?

Runs $150 directly from Bodum, much higher elsewhere:  http://bodum.bodum.com/us/en-us/shop/detail/11001-913US/

When JC Penny's was having their Bodum clearance event, they had a couple of these at my local store for about $30. They are a beautiful machine. I almost bought one, just to have, until I saw the reviews.

I'm a big Bodum fan but just on their glassware.. I don't think any of their appliances are built for "hardcore" usage. If this thing was cheaper and made a good cup (I've never tried it) then maybe I'd buy it for light use.

I played with a demo unit a while ago. It did better for 500 - 600 ml pots because for larger amounts the filter basket would overflow when using fresh coffee. I would buy one for $30 though.
