It is a "he."  <grins>  And "he" is stately, handsome.

I always wash new metal kitchen products in a hot, palm oil dish detergent, rinsing in very hot water.  This is to rid it of any residual manufacturing oils.

Then fire him up.

I assume this is what you're talking about?:

http://www.clivecoffee.com/product/hario_buono_kettle.html

If so, I'd either wash it down (inside and out) with warm, soapy water or just throw the sucker in the dishwasher before your first use.

Oh now, there will definitely be a ruckus in the kitchen if that is the case.
But, I think you are mistaken.
The one I got is light and delicate and very girly....

Susan, you are a hoot.  That is a guy-pot, a metrosexual kettle.  Come on, you live on the West Coast, no?

B/dude.

It's a common misconception that a performance that is light and delicate is necessarily girly.

Sometimes, light and delicate (aim too) is just is sign of experience, not gender.

Ya know, I got rolling there, and it was fun, but the gender stereotyping was shameful, and for that I apologize to all and sundry.

Your humor was good, quick and funny.  Certainly not shameful.  We can handle it. No need to apologize.

CAGurl,

As B/java says the skin is thick-ish round here. No apologies needed.

BTW,

I remember guessing correctly at the Yemenathon.

Was a similar Buono the prize?

You left without it.  It be gone, mate.  I traded it to Wild Bill for a ceramic coffee cup he turned and Denise decorated.  Here was the big monster:
