I just purchased this great little device from barismo in Boston and I wanted to pass it on:
http://shop.barismo.com/equipment/kettlegicleur (http://shop.barismo.com/equipment/kettlegicleur)
It's a small inexpensive ($5) flow restrictor which is custom made for the Buono Kettle. You simply place it inside the kettle and it reduces the flow of water to a thin, even stream which is perfect for Pour Overs.
I give it a big "thumbs up" and encourage any Pour Over fans who use the Buono to give it a try.

I know it will come as a surprise, but I have one on its way. Marshall told me it is made of teflon. If it appears that it can handle insertion and removal several times without loss of functioning, it will be ready for a "travel and try." Stay tuned.

Guess who else ordered one?

Me too, about 3 seconds after Marshall posted. Had to think about it.

Oh goody! An excuse to buy a new kettle :)

I ordered it too - great idea!

I got my little flow restrictor in last night and I have to say that I'm really impressed. It keeps the flow at a slow and steady stream no matter how much you tilt the kettle. The perfect thin stream for Hario. Highly recommended!

That's great - I had the same reaction - it really does a nice job.
I have even gone back to using my Coava Kone (which I had given up on) and discovered it is capable of making terrific coffee with a more controlled pour -

My kettle is now nicely gicleurated, the new flow ranges much more suited to pour overs. I also recently found that this $10.63 bunsen burner stand (http://www.espressoparts.com/LAB_STAND1) I bought to adapt the stovetop vacpots to my butane burner makes a nifty 6" pour over station!

Ouch, my eyes hurt at this early hour with ECC's screaming yellow cone.
RE: The Barismo's flow restrictor, no traveling road show. I don't think it will hold up to popping in and out numerous times. All you single men out there --- get to courting. I had to have the Czarina put ours in. There is no way my hand fits in that kettle.

Sorry about that! I bought that when I was still under the impression that coffee toys were allowed in "our" kitchen. Now it just makes it easier to find. (even in the dark)
