Title: Coffee bean pens - "The 3rd Crack"
Post by: texatdurango on July 10, 2009, 10:31:21 AM
Coffee roasting is just one of my hobbies/addictions, another is pen making which I took up when I retired.  I cast many of my pen blanks and recently started making a blank that I think some here might be interested in, if for nothing else, a unique gift that probably no one else has!  I call it “The 3rd Crack”.

I mix roasted beans into an acrylic casting resin called Alumilite then turn the material on my lathe and the end result is a unique pen; either ballpoint or roller ball.

To see the pens, visit my site:   http://georges-penworks.com/ (http://georges-penworks.com/) then click the Custom Pens button or go directly to the coffee bean pen page: http://georges-penworks.com/penworks-custom.html (http://georges-penworks.com/penworks-custom.html)

Thanks for looking.

Thank you, it does make me feel good knowing that I can make something that makes someone else happy.  This started out as just an interest, then a hobby, then an addiction, now three lathes later, I'm still enjoying every moment in my shop.  Sounds a little like getting hooked on roasting, I started out with some 1/2 lb sampler bags now am ordering 5 lbs at a time and have three orders going at once.... what on earth am I going to do with all that coffee, drink it!  :o

A very good site for buying used pens safely. Had a few Montblancs from there and they have all proved to be genuine and as described.

Awesome pens... just one problem...

I am HORRIBLE with pens,  if I got one, id surely lose it within a week and be pissed for another three weeks afterwards.   Ive tried the 'good pen' route before with poor retentiveness results on my end.    Maybe Ill get one to put on display somewhere and not use it????

The opposite for me...

When I have cheap biro's or free pens I leave them all over and never have them to hand.

When I have a decent pen, I never take my eyes off it and thus have it whenever I need it.
