I thought it was just a summer thing with the demand for electricity causing volage hits on my roaster but being close to the official start of winter now I am still not getting the nice dark roasts that this roaster was giving me. I roast with a Swissmar Alpenröst.
I read a few Variac threads in which people have bought a Variac and seemed to overcome their roasting problems.
I am thinking now that I may as well do this also. I want to team this up with a Kill-a-Watt in order to monitor wattage with the roaster is doing its thing. I have been sending RareBare some pm's as I know he has bought one and he is steering me to this:
https://www.circuitspecialists.com/variac-tdgc-3kva.htmlThis looks as good as any but I hoping to find one that accepts regular electrical input as opposed to banana plugs. I was thinking of attaching a Kill-a-Watt to the outlet on the Variac and learning what the current situation looks like during the roasting process. I know that if/when I upgrade roasters this investment will still be handy.
I was reading on another thread that the big 3 are Staco, General Radio, and Superior Electric. Price is always important but so is quality as I don't want to be doing this purchase again within a short period of time.
Any thoughts?
