The safety argument is hard to counter.

 :)

We have had a home fire, unrelated to coffee.  A quality extinguisher is all that kept the home from going (I have always had at least three in our home).  I had the fire under control when the fire department arrived.  That experience impacts my view.

Yes ... I bet it would.

Thank you for that.

I created some searches on eBay, and it took about one month before something showed up at the $200 level. After I bought the Staco unit, I saw a few search results on eBay that were between $150 and $200.

Oh, I am not worried about MP, master of CL, EBay, Kijiji.
He will dig something out.
But seriously, don't be shy to offer half the price on Kijiji and CL.
People have those heavy monsters that they have no use for.
I bought 30A for 90$. I can't wait to see if it will trip fuse...
I remeber 30 years ago I had to add soft start relay, with big resistor in series during the start to restrict magnetisation spike.

I just missed a Staco 22 amp untested for $108.00 today..
Just thought I'd test the waters.

Looking in ebay completed listings there were several nice usa units 20-25amps for $100-150 that have sold in the last few weeks. A brand new staco 2510 25amp panel mount in the box with dial plate and knob just went for $149. very sweet deal. There are several Superior 136-136B in ebay auctions (not buy it now)at the present. I've got a couple extra 20+amp. units

Thanks for the vote of confidence Smico.

I don't think I need one of these things for the Behmor, but it looks like it can add some fun to popper roasting so I bought this one:

Power Stat 22 amp Variac

I hope it works.

I was going to compare a China vs USA model..

Like this Staco below tag says 3.1 KVA 22 AMP

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Power-Stat-Variac-120-volt-input-0-140-volt-output-variable-22-amps-works-great-/251203981035?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a7cec8eeb&nma=true&si=WuwPmTw4Mc0msn3yP6Zk9vHJfTE%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

The china model I have is a 3 KVA and 30 AMP

So they are rated lower you just can't use the amp ratings

So the Staco puts out 3.1KVA at 22 amps while the Chinese unit puts out 3.0 KVA at 30 amps.

The Staco seems more capable although it is only rated at 22 amps.

There are some good resources that explain electricity out there.

Here is one. This is another.
