Title: $830 to buy a lever. I'm impulsive! What do I buy! Need it yesterday!!
Post by: jspain on June 07, 2012, 07:53:58 PM
Ms. Lusso (used lever)was picked up a few days ago by UPS. She came to me damaged. The settlement check heading my way is for $830.

Larry and John have helped the boss (my wife) buying the used Ponte Vecchio Lusso for me for my birthday. I fell in love with Ms. Lusso, but she is gone! I feel like a lost, and thrown away, lover...... sad!

I can buy a new PVL delivered for under $1100, new Export delivered for $839, used who know what?

Thoughts?......?   ps, gotta be a lever!

My impulse buy was the La Pavoni Stradivarius for similar change - so far I am liking it very much. I don't have lot of experience with different levers  though so take the advice for what it is worth.

Maybe Bold will part with that 2nd Cremina for $830.  ;)

You already have a tamper and bottomless portafilter for the Lusso.... right?  so that's a $120 credit... you now have $950. 8)

I'm leaning PVL as of now! Distributor in Cali will deliver. 1st line will not deliver PVL (due to shipping damage). They deliver UPS  :o!

I'll wait a few more days until the check gets here and try and not pull the trigger on anything for the time being. Espresso withdrawl has set in. I do have a PVL portafilter and tamper, I do have a good feel for the PVL after a month of use, so...... I'm leaning that way. The PVL 3 liter boiler is nice. Export is 0.9 liter like the Sama. LaPavoni is tempting. Used something may be the best value?? Decisions, decisions......? Keep the ideas coming.  Thanks for the input!

PVL.  You have a good comfort level with it, has an outstanding reputation.  To confuse you, I would suggest you look at the Strega lever by Berreza..  Should you buy one, then we all with need to do some Jones-ing.

That looks like a tank.

I bet even UPS couldn't damage that one!

Ha!, They managed to get my La Spaziale and it is pretty sturdy especially when in the styrofoam and double boxed. Next machine will be fedex or nothing.

You can get a Caravel for half your budget [if you want to brave ebay italy] and have $400 or $500 to buy some great green beans.

If it ends up being PVL, get a 2-group.

They must hit those things with a sledge hammer on purpose.

Yep, there's some hybrids out there now. I have no experience with them but some folks speak highly of them.

I'm still debating what to do? I do appreciate everyone's input!!! I will pull the trigger in the next few days.  jim

Hey Jim.
I read somewhere that you bought PVL. What exactly did you end up buying, and are you happy with it?
Thanks
Miroslav

Miroslav,

I did buy the Ponte Vecchio Lusso single head. I LOVE IT! I had several leads on various used lever machines but I decided that I wanted to buy new for many reasons to include shipping issues as just one. I like the PVL for several reasons. It came highly recommended, steams great, 3 liter boiler, spring lever, decent price point, and it pulls a great shot.

All levers have a large learning curve. It is my first lever and they are MUCH DIFFERENT than a pump. I'm a very happy owner!

Vaneli's. They did a great job of packing!! It took three days for them to ship it and a week to make it to OHIO! Well worth the wait! 1st line carries the PVL but will not ship it! Pick-up only......  jim

ps, I did go over my $830 insurance check from UPS. It was a bit over $1000 shipped.
