Technivorm Water Tank
« on: March 31, 2012, 09:04:17 AM »
Okay so the other day my impulse spending got the best of me. I was surfing eBay when I saw a brand new Technivorm with a broken water tank for BIN $99. I jump on it thinking I would just buy a replacement water tank and it would be good as new. I contacted Boyd's coffee service and they told me that they did not sell the water tank as a replacement part. They told me they didn't sell any parts that would allow you to access or change  the electrical components. Does the water tank allow you do access or change the electric components? I asked if I sent it in would they repair it, again I got a no. Has anyone one ever replace the water tank on a Technivorm or know where I can find one? The eBay seller was understanding of the situation and said I could return the item for a refund. I just wanted to explore my options before I do that.

Unless you find a more cooperative vendor you're SOL. I too have had problems with Boyd's; enough so that it would put me off Technivorm if they're the sole provider of parts.

I plan in trying Seattle Coffee Gear on Monday and I have a WTB listing up on CG maybe I will get lucky. If not I'll send it back to the seller and take it as a lesson learned.

I'm surprised the seller is offering a refund, since you knew about the damage beforehand, but that's nice.

There's no repairing the water tank yourself?

Yeah I thought I would get stuck with it also Peter. If I had I wouldn't have blamed the seller I should have looked for the water tank first. No there is no way to repair it it is completely missing except a small portion of the bottom of the tank.

No doubt you've thought of this, but how about leaving the $99 tied up in this one while you look/wait for a dead Technivorm to show up.  If you could find a dead one for $20 or whatever it could be worth waiting for.

Yeah I thought about it and I may still go that route. I figure if there is a dead Technivorm out there CG is the place to find it that is why I posted the WTB listing over there. Considering that no one sells replacement parts I may get lucky if I don't I could always list it on eBay. Another option is Boyd's trade in program for $100 and my broken machine they will send me a refurbished machine. Now you know why they don't sell parts.  :)

I suppose we should consider ourselves lucky they sell any parts at all. Ahh, the joy of monopolies!

Technivorms have a 10 year warranty. Take them up on it.

I am not sure. I just knew they came with a 10 year warranty. Boyd's is their US distributor and all resellers of Technivorm products in the US have to buy product to resell through them. With that, I am sure they know better than anyone.

Boyds can be a pain, I bought my first and second TechV from them and the vac pot lost its seal, so they sent me another, that lasted 6 months, I called them back and said it did it again, they wanted proof I bought it from them, and they were not going to check their files for me. I got a Nissan instead and works better than the TechV.
