Baratza Virtuoso Knob Tip
« on: May 20, 2013, 08:00:30 AM »
For those of you like me that are/were frustrated with it falling off, here is a suggestion..

Take a small piece of plumbers teflon pipe tape,  1/2 or so. wet the end of the knob and lay the tape across it. Then slide the knob on to the stem and it is nice and snug. The tape slips in nicely and the wetness holds it in place until pressed in.

Nice and snug..

I did something similar w/ plain old scotch tape, on the recommendation of a Baratza customer service person, but believe teflon tape would be easier to work with.  You just need a layer or two in the slot of the shaft.

Thank you Paul - that knob falling off has been a nuisance for years.

Whoops, no wonder I had such a hard time.
I tried to wind the teflon around the shaft....

Well, when it falls off I will re-read this and do it the right way....
RTFD.....

If and when my knob falls off again, I'm planning on planning to squeeze the slot in the shaft shut a little bit w/ a vise-grips.  That would be the German way to do it, since that's how it should have been made in the first place.

Hot glue?

Maybe...  I haven't had the best of luck hot-gluing to metal, but it may produce a good friction fit.

Teflon tape.   You can still remove the knob if you need to take the case apart.

My  knob slot is plastic  so squeezing isnt an option.  The teflon slides in on both sides and seems to snug it up perfect and can take it off later if you need to opoen the case.

No way, I'm not doing it, that is the only exercise I get..... chasing that stupid knob around the kitchen floor.

Cool, but.....
With everything else that they seem to do so well, wouldn't you think they could make it so the fix wasn't necessary?
It boggles my mind that an otherwise fine product should have such a crappy part that gets used and abused and chased around the floor regularly.   Clearly someone didn't finish his/her part of the design assignment.

Okay, you're right...
I haven't had my coffee yet....

I used silicon, but it only lasted 6 mos.  The damn knob still falls off.  I'll read thru that link and see if there's an easier way to fix, otherwise, I'll clean the silicon off and try the teflon tape.  Good thread topic btw

They just want you to buy the weighing attachment! Why else would they not address something so simple yet so annoying? Tried the tape, mine didn't respond well to the fix.
