JohnF posted this last year:

I remember seeing that. I guess the market was large enough that there can be 2 devices that produce a totally horrid swill labeled as espresso.

Huh.  That looks interesting.  The pressure comes from using carbon dioxide canisters, as for a cream whipper, seltzer bottle or bicycle tire inflator.  No price given on the website.  If it was $ 50, I would try it if only for the backpacking potential.  Better that than the little GSI espresso/moka pots.

REI sells the Handpresso for $ 99.

Actually, the cartridges are filled with N2O - very flammable stuff. It might give your coffee a real buzz though! N2O was the drug of choice in Saudi Arabia & 100% legal  :glasses9:.

Hmmm. The brochure just states 'standard gas cartridges'.  I assumed they were carbon dioxide, and not nitrous oxide.

Don't be so sure....  ;D

I don't know anybody that has tried any of these hand press jobbers yet but the water temp alone has me concerned.

Experience and skill can get a fellow a long way with a moka pot.  It will be a long time before the volume that has gone through my La Spaz (owned for nearly 3 years now) catches up with the volume I pulled through 3-cup moka pots...   Some of the reddest crema I ever saw came out of a moka pot.

Gotta agree about the water temperature on the hand presses.  I suppose if you were backpacking you could just suck down a couple of the whippet charges and chuckle while you sipped your sour shots...   ;D

Nah ... that may even go as far as to be a tourist destination for the presso lover just to check out the ingenuity!
