"Sock" Coffee Brewers
« on: June 28, 2010, 06:50:40 AM »
I found that Amazon has the new Yama "sock" brewer for sale. Pyment mentioned this a while back. I had been wanting to get one of the Hario drip pots but I like the look of the Yama better. I love the way the spout in made.

Anyway, I had to order one. I thought $19.95 was a great price, and its eligible for free Super Saver shipping if you spend another $5. Certainly cheaper than it's Hario counterpart. I'll report back once I have a chance to use it.

The top almost looks like they've sliced off the top part of a grapefruit.

Are you kidding ... of course I look forward to the review.

You got to admit though ... does it not look like a grapefruit that is sliced across the top?

I'll admit, somewhat grapefruit-ish :)

BTW,

If anyone finds any good videos demonstrating "sock pot" techniques, please post them here.

I saw the Hario version of this (or is the Yama the knockoff of the Hario) on display at the Visions booth at CoffeeFest.  Eric seemed to like them a lot, and recommends rinsing the filter well and then storing it submersed in water in the fridge between uses.

Grapefruit wouldn't have crossed my mind if you hadn't mentioned it. Now that you have?........

Nope, not to me.

Coffee sock. Haha, that reminds me...

I had a roommate from the Dominican Republic once. He would commonly brew his coffee from one of his socks from his sock drawer then toss it in the laundry basket.
He was rewarded with coffee with a hint of fabric softener and many stained socks...  :-X
