Rotate Fun 300 Coffee Roaster - Any info?
« on: December 16, 2010, 02:04:00 PM »
I just stumbled upon a fairly new roaster out of Taiwan called the Roaster Fun 300. Despite it's name, it looks to be a pretty good roaster at a pretty good price. I emailed the manufacturer for the best price plus shipping to the US. The price was posted at $310-$410. There are a ton of videos on it around YouTube. All of the ones I saw on youtube had a black outer shell, but the one in the link has a stainless steel shell. It has an 850W heating element, heat dial control, knob timer, an open front so you can monitor bean temp / color, what appears to be an optional bean cooler and a roasting capacity of 100g-300g. I also found it interesting that you can remove the bottom chaff collector and utilize your own gas heating source if you so choose.

Anyway, I wanted to get everyones input on it, and also wanted to see if anyone know anything about it.

Here is the manufacturers website:  http://www.siangcyuan.com.tw/

http://www.alibaba.com/product-free/111526593/Rotate_Fun_300_cofee_roaster.html . Apparently the flame clad one in the video costs more like $265.

Here is a video of some guys using it.

Looks like a fairly simply designed roaster.  Looks like capacity is just over 1/2 pound.  Less than an Hottop but more than a 1 pound Behmor.

An interesting niche it has chosen for sure.

Anyone getting one?

That caught my eye too. I looked up a youtube for the gas version and all I could find was a guy who had removed the chaff collector from the bottom of the machine and placed a mini gas camping stove under it.

Better video;

Interesting how the beans surge outside and then back into the roast chamber. I'd prefer seeing the beans staying inside the whole time.

More info.

They still get what appear to be good roast times. It seems to function similar to a traditional sample roaster, which has an open 'cannon barrel' for ambient temp air to enter. I think that would have a negligible effect on roast temp, especially when I am sure that metal piece they role out onto it ridiculously hot.

Was Spinny Roasty already taken?

PS: I have just mentally trademarked Spinny Roasty.
