A type K t/c is what you should look for. A type J t/c is also in the correct temp range for roasting, but I'd avoid using ferrous leads.

I performed that same search before posting this thread. I didn't see any in the listing that use the banana plug connection. They are all an "L" or "-" type connection. The have adapters but the spacing is not correct for my multimeter.

Two types of connectors - flat & round. My thermometer uses the mini-plug (flat type).

I usually buy these in lots of 5 for ~$90 from Omega. The good thing about my Omega HH-21 is it'll use type J, K, or T thermocouples. I use type T for measuring water temps and type K for roasting.

Handy not-so-little tool.

You get all 5 for $90?  With t\c's?

That might be the way to go. I could keep a couple and then sell the other 3. Anybody willing to take the extras off my hands? ;)

if you get a thermocouple of the same type (usually K) as your broken one you can get the banana plugs at most electronics parts store/site... even ~gasp~ Radio Shack ~ducking~
just get your leads in the right input... I picked up some built into a metal tube... that style may hold up better in your drum...

Already checked Radio Shack and other local electronics retailers. No dice. I've still got the plugs off my old unit. I found a couple of places that carry a probe, but they are made for HVAC applications and nowhere near the temp range I need.

The probe will have to be from online... I just meant the banana plugs at radio shack...

While surfing Ebay to see what they offer I found quite a few thermometers, some with dual temp probes. Most ship out of China so that makes me a little wary. I would like to know if anyone has any experience with these units.

Examples:
LCD Display Precision Thermometer Thermocouple K Type

Digital Thermometer Thermocouple 2 K-Type Probe Sensor

K or J Type Thermometer Thermocouple with 4 Probes Temp(I like this one)

Thanks for the link. MCM still has the Dual Input Digital Thermometer with USB for $49.95 when using the discount code 18SC8. It was supposed to end Jan 30th. Pretty sure I'm gonna grab one.....

http://www.mcmaster.com/#thermocouples/   <---  then go to page 585, thermocouple, bare wires, 32-900F

Got my thermometer from MCM today. Looks OK - just OK. But the instruction book is virtually unintelligible - typical for low-end electrical products from 3rd world countries. I've seen good instructions for Chinese products; just not for low priced stuff. Now the test will be how long the tool itself works before it starts throwing out screwy data.

It's true - you do get what you pay for!

Mine arrived yesterday. I thought it was a pretty decent unit for the price and it's capabilities. Hard to find something that does data logging for that price point. I haven't opened the manual yet.
