Title: Primula Coffee Brew Buddy?
Post by: Kimbalabala on December 13, 2017, 06:31:22 AM
I'm wondering if anyone has tried this gadget I found on Amazon for $7. It's made of a silcone ring with a mesh basket to hold coffee grounds suspended in your cup. I agonize over (ok, that may be a bit exaggerated) having to drink the swill in hotels when we travel - or Folgers at my sons (I'm fixing that with Christmas though!) - and would love to have good coffee and a portable way to make a good cup. I'm ordering two today and will let you know what I think of them after I experiment, but was wondering if anyone else has tried them.

I can't see why that wouldn't work.

Leave it soak like a tea bag, it'd be kind of like a french press type thingie without having to press it out, just remove grounds and drink.  Let us know how it works for you please.

No, I have not tried it. For 7 bucks you can't go too far wrong.

There are a lot of pour over devices out there. This is not dissimilar to many other.

Let us know how it works out for you. With this, you certainly won't agonize in your hotel room about their coffee.

Enjoy!

looking at the photo makes me thing you get 3-4oz before the filter is submerged? If it had a collapse-able stand I think this might be the ultimate backpacking pourover.

Of course at that point, an old sweat sock may accomplish the same job here.  :)

Ok! I got two for $12 on Amazon! We have tried them and they work well. We both prefer the French press, but this is great for portability and a good cup of coffee. I am using a finer grind with it with better results. I'm also using two scoops of coffee (.5+ ounces) per 12 oz of water - after adding the water I stir the grounds to make sure they've all gotten plenty wet - let it sit for 4 minutes. You can use this on any size cup. It's even easy to empty and clean up!

I give it a thumbs up.  :D

Btw, I also got a Tea Forte cup with stainless steel basket and tried that with coffee. It works ok, but I like the Brew Buddy better.

It'll be better than the sweat sock you're using.
