Holiday Toys - What's on Your List?
« on: December 05, 2010, 03:50:08 AM »
While I am not getting one, a Bonmac vacpot (made by Hario - rebadged) is available here at $72.  http://www.unicahome.com/catalog/item.asp?id=58909&PartnerID=FR HarioUSA has just gone crazy with their prices ($145).  http://shop.roustaboutproducts.com/category.sc?categoryId=8  Why buy it when Hario is making the Bonmac?

My list?

1)  A TDS meter, with temperature readings as well:  TDS Meter:  http://www.filtersfast.com/HM-Digital-Com-100-Filter-Tester.asp
2)  A paper cone holder.  I have paper filters all over the kitchen in a variety of utensil baskets.  Enough!  http://www.orphanespresso.com/Bamboo-Coffee-Filter-Holder-for-Cone-Style-Filters_p_3631.html
3)  I am ordering a NIB Silex Lox-In and a Cory rod to boot from some clown here on GCBC just because I feel sorry for him:  http://www.greencoffeebuyingclub.com/index.php?topic=7223.msg166663#msg166663
4)  I am getting a new set of burrs for a Nuova Simonelli MCD65 grinder (Eureka Deli - pictured below) that I will clean up and sell or keep if it outshines the Macap 4
5)  I am also asking for a nice classic plaid bow tie but you don't want to know about that...

If you're asking outside of coffee, I'm asking for a Russian bride.   ;D

If it's limited to coffee, I have everything I need and want.  Contentment trumps higher coffee toy count.   8)

But if I had B|Forbes money, I'd take in some training here; http://midwestbaristaschool.com/.  I met the owner at CoffeeFest, and think it would a good investment.

We give each other major hints for stocking stuffers and I've made the point that I need to get the 20 oz. Espro toroid frothing pitcher.

I have the 12 oz and it is so much easier to make pourable microfoam milk.  I spent probably a year getting a traditional shaped pitcher to whirlpool milk and make good microfoam.  With the toroid its a no brainer. Highly recommended.

Are you thinking of using that for coffee/espresso analysis?

Good reminder that I need to make a list.

My Christmas list is full of stuff I want to get RID of, not acquire. But at the top of my list this year is still a Visacrem VX lever machine with red trim. It's really the only must-have item on the list, but it's been there for a few years and will be on the next one.

Slightly OT: Ever wonder how Larry comes up with all his toys? Turns out he's got an accomplice! That's right folks, he's part of a crime syndicate that controls access to the Aurora Bridge, collecting kickbacks for safe passage - looks like he's just added a VW Beatle to his collection. Now you know the untold story. ;)

This is a pretty good price for something that might prove competitive to the meter the Mojo guys sell for much more. Have you seen anyone using this for measuring coffee?

Yes, Ryan uses one at http://roastcoffeecompany.com.  His is w/o the temp and he encouraged me to fly with the temp.  He graphs his coffee from the Fetco daily.

Wow!  Just a short trip from here!  Before I started roasting, we used to drop by JP's after buying bags of interesting candies at the P-nut Shop across the street.  BTW, the personal Home Barista classes are not overly expensive.

Extension tubes to photograph even closer macro shots of coffee. I already roast and brew great coffee with as minimum equipment as possible. (Not doing espresso anymore helps.)

Sure you drop a Triple on a grinder, Schotzie and accessories and then say, "Game over.  Contentment reigns."   Foul.

Pricier than I thought.  Just before retirement, I will pull some lessons from Ryan at Roast right in town so I have a clue about that side of business.  I think his macchiatos sing.  Great shots/foam.

Got an email from Clive Coffee today.  $165.  Oregon walnut and locally designed ceramic from an Oregon artist.  Surely is pretty but I will knot be getting one.  Just a tease for those of you that have almost everything.  Love local artists rather than off-shored stuff.

I know no one else uses cream, but had to throw this one in.
