I use citric acid....it clean pretty well but it takes a bath of a few hours.

So do I. My boss aw work wants to use vinegar on a Curtis cafe brewer.  "Copper boiler".  :D

citric acid will clean copper and brass but can give them an odd shine so be careful.  I remember my navy days using citric acid to clean deck drains, ugh.
