Huky perf drum slider thingy..
« on: January 20, 2015, 08:42:19 PM »
This is pretty spiffy.

I didn't know this is how the perf drum works but the more I think about it the cooler it gets.  8)

No problem!

But I see now if that feature is omitted because a solid drum is selected adding it later will be extremely difficult.

And if you order perf with an extra solid drum the extra arms will add thickness to be aware of.

It's really cool!

John do you have a video clip or a picture to show the controlling mechanism?
Is it possible to make a switch half way during a roast?
It is a curve ball to create new roasting profiles.  ;D

I'll edit this post with a pic but it's ultra easy to adjust at any time.

OK not the top wood carry handle but the wood handle on the back by the motor.....fingertip easy adjustment at your command.

Indeed its something you'll NEED to pay attention to...it slides so easy that it can change positions, even by accident (moving/handling) that it can affect roasting if in the incorrect position. There's no automatic way to map it to Artisan other than notation, but it would be an important parameter to include. I can see clearly how it can be effective on the perf drum....faster preheat, driving charge into phases quicker, etc. Part of the thrill of this Huky is that ability to play with conduction and convection in so many ways. :)

I like to play around with leaving the holes closed during dry and then open for the rest of the roast and vice versa.  The trouble is, I often forget to make the change.  I'm often making changes to the gas and the fan at the same time - so much to do and so little time.

That's pretty sweet, I would find the solid drum to be somewhat useless after seeing this.

Unless you really don't want airflow and are after a "roasty" roast I'm with you.  Just close the hatch and boom.

But wouldn't you achieve the same by closing the dampers? I would feel really grateful sticking with the Perforated drum. What happens to the handle when you go solid?

It just moves 1/4" or so to open/close. I'm pretty happy I went with this option.

Hopefully in another round or 2 people will know exactly what they are ordering before ordering.   ;D

Almost 600 sent out and it's still a bit mysterious.   8)
