HotTop....B or P?
« on: November 27, 2013, 02:37:22 PM »
HT users out there, I'm looking for feedback regarding these 2 panels.   My roasting is still in its infancy, having a whopping 380 toasts under my belt.  The most I did with the Behmor was choose a letter; with the Gene, turn down temp. I'm not looking for über-control, but something consistent.

I'm thinking about getting the B, with the option of upgrading the panel if it seems appropriate.   Or, should I just anticipate growth, and jump right in with the P?

Tanks.........patty

The b gives you full control of your parameters where the p locks you into preset profiles. I have had the b for a long time. Hands down best choice in my book. Do not really see the reason why you would want to give up control of your roast. Hope that helps.

Wow.....didn't expect to see such a heavy preference towards the B.    I like it cuz it just seems so much simpler.

Yes, you want B. For the price difference you can buy thermocouples, TC4 and HTC (Hottop controler).  Major advantage of HT is that it's so easy to modify and make nearly perfect small roaster out of it.

Hottop's stock thermocouple is not very useful for precise BT or ET measurements.
Most HT owners add BT and ET thermo probes.  Then you need Arduino and TC4 (board that allows temperature measurements from 4 thermocouples) and computer.

I explained it a bit here:http://www.greencoffeebuyingclub.com/index.php?topic=15589.30

Also, most modifications are explained to details in http://www.homeroasters.org/php/forum/viewforum.php?forum_id=122

At the end of the road you will be able to roast, save profile, and later on replay the same profile and get identical roast.

I can explain in more details or help along the way if necessary.

Regrads,

Miroslav

HT is good roaster off the bat.
Just buy B, and the rest you can do in stages.
As we always say entering the rabbit hole.
