Any Folks with a E-61 Group Head ?

I made a few adapters to get the temp of the water just before it leaves the group head..
You just remove the screw in front and screw this in..It uses a Taylor Meat Temp. cut and the extra wire is fished into the head..

If I get a more than three folks that want the brass and plastic I run a batch off..
I'd be asking $10 +S&H

Plus instructions?

You just screw it in..
Pull Taylor Thermometer a part and cut stem..

You can see the temp of your flush and stop at the exact spot every time..

I flush to 198º and finish pulling shot at 200º
No guessing..

Does it make a marked improvement to your shots?

For me it does... I know what the temp of my pulled shots are..
If I didn't have one I'd be crazy by now..
Its one thing I know I have right.. Now I just have to worry about grind and dose :)

I don't need the screwdriver as I have exactly the same one.  The best screwdriver ever...   :)
I am in.  Let me know if you will go ahead and I will PM my US shipping address.
My machine is Brewtus IIIR with PID, but the more temperature measurements the merrier.

FYI - this type of temp measurement only shows the temp of the water as it passes through the group, not the actual brew temp. To measure the brew temp you'll need a Scace device, or do as I do and loop a thin-wire thermocouple over the lip of the filter basket and place the t/c tip on top of the puck and as near to the center of the puck as possible.

If you have a data logging thermometer, even better - you can measure the group temp and record it for posterity, like this;

It's more useful to know the HX machine's static boiler temp than a dynamic temp reading measured in the group. By measuring dynamic brew temps at the puck, you can determine what boiler temp, and cooling flush duration, are required to give you an even temp profile at the brew temp for the shot duration you desire.

For example; in the shot shown earlier, I began with a boiler temp of 240°F, used a 5 second cooling flush, and pulled a 30 second shot at 200°F. It's that simple to pull consistent shots when you begin with a stable HX boiler temp reading.

Tex, what happens if you start @ 230º or 220º ?

The brew head gauge shows the water temp just before it leaves into the puck on ever shot..
I can see your gauge being more accurate but its not something you can use on every shot and not look like a mad scientist :)

This image shows what happens if there's no cooling flush with an idle E61-type machine The thermo-siphon heated group will eventually become the same temp as the boiler, and the group becomes the same temp as the HX.

The cooling flush cools the HX and group.

Tex,
I should bit my tongue as I am sure you know books more than I do..

I was just playing with my pressure stat after reading you just flush for 5 secs...
I lowered mine a bit as I had to flush 8oz of water, now I just have to flush 4oz
For me this little gauge makes my life easy and I can see if  screwed up from the normal every time I pull a shot..

I how am going to make a new steam wand tip (they sell them as the stock ones are too big)
My stock tip has 4 big holes and I was using two tooth picks to plug up a two holes and it worked great but now I think it would work better smaller that I lowered the pressure..

My Nuova Simonelli Mac Digit had a 4-hole tip with large diameter holes, and it would blow the milk out of smaller pitchers. I silver soldered all four holes and redrilled the tip with just two smaller parallel holes. It was a lot easier to steam with after that.

With my current HX, lowering the boiler temp from 253°F to 240°F also makes it easier to steam.

Just put the PID on my Gaggia Classic.

With steam control, Silvia wand, but haven't tuned in the OPV yet.

Nice looking setup! Now adjust the OPV; that'll make a huge difference in shot quality.

I have the two pieces you mentioned in the Gaggia thread, I have to find a proper gauge now.
