Saeco Chrisma
« on: October 26, 2008, 05:19:46 PM »
I have a chance to pick this machine up for less than $250, so any opinions?  It is for work and it needs to be easy to use, fast, and produce a decent cup.  So.......

(hoping to get enough people at work to get this in Glen Rose, Texas)

I just picked up a Gaggia digital, which probably is a pretty similar machine.

Everyone on here will tell you that you can't get good espresso from it, which is probably true, but it makes a pretty decent cup of coffee. Very strong, very rich.

No muss, No fuss. put your cup under it, and push a button.

I am off to see about the Chrisma and see what it does.  The price is right now all it has to do is make a decent cup of espresso.  It is for the office and I need something that can make coffee but not a mess.  I will let you know how it goes.

(off on a coffee road trip in Benbrook, Texas) ;D

Just got home with the unit and I must say I am impressed.  The unit makes an espresso with crema and the it is hot.  I went to the sellers home and we talked for quite awhile.  He is an airline pilot and fixes these units as a hobby.  He was overwhelmed by the coffee I brought and I think I may have a convert on the line.  The unit was under $250 and he has 2 more.  If you are interested let me know I will ask if he wants his number or email given out.  He will ship.  I also made a latte and again I was impressed.  I didn't steam the milk long enough so the drink was not quite as hot as I would have liked.

I noticed that I had no problem get steam and then the espresso.  It sure beats charbucks but not the manual version.  I still make a better espresso when I do it manually.  But the ease of this machine may make me reconsider doing it manually.

For the office it will be perfect.  The price and convience make this a good deal.  Now will it hold up?  Only time will tell.  Until I put some miles on this baby I will cross my fingers.

(happy with the new toy in Benbrook, Texas) ;D ;D

Congratulations Nucer ... sounds like you found a great deal.

Did you ever find the retail cost of these babies?

The price I saw was $699.99 new.  So I think I did real well.  On ebay it was about $450.  The machine is definitely used but it made a great latte this morning so.....

(still happy with my toy in Benbrook, Texas)

ps the office will have to wait until Monday while I play with this device this weekend. >:D ;D

Okay we have had this thing at the office for two weeks.  First for you purist this is not a machine for you.  It makes a good cup of espresso but it is not great.  Now for us lazy people, it is just what we were looking for.  Easy to use, cheap and makes a good cup of espresso.  BTW did I mention that it did not cost an arm and a leg?!  The espresso has a top of crema but would I say it bets my manual shots?  No!  It is convenient and is perfect for fast and acceptable espresso.  I would recommend this machine and am very please with it.

So in the end I love having a morning espresso and an afternoon latte.  So score one for the gipper in Texas.

(having a better Monday than I did Sunday in Glen Rose, Texas)
