My 2.5 kg shop roaster drum motor turns at just about 65 rpm...It seems just about right for the drum size.

For the RK drum folks, reinventing the wheel seems to me to be okay for German engineers, but not necessary for the average joe roaster.  The pic shows the fan (cheapo 110 volt clip on type) which turns intermitent motors into continuous duty for the 4 lb. drum, and the link is to the 50 RPM motor.  I have used mine for approximately 100 bazillion pounds, and it still works fine.  But. . .just in case I live to be very old, I have two extra motors for replacements.

Great pic, Curtis. Thanks for posting your setup. I've been putting off building a BBQ drum roaster as I didn't have a solid design, but that looks like something I can do. I'd also looked at that motor but was wondering if it had enough power to do the job. I just ordered two. Hope you don't mind if I copy a few elements of your roaster.

This is what I put together about 5 years ago and I still fire it up once in a while.

I built the drum myself and the brackets for the motor was also my handiwork.

Since I have really been thinking about building a drum roaster at some point in the future, I went to check out the website. This is never happened to me before but I Googled "RK Drum" and of course the rkdrums.com was first on the list. When I went to visit the site it took me to a page that stated "Warning - visiting this web site may harm your computer!". Strange I thought, so I clicked on Google's Safe Browsing diagnostic page for the site and this came back:

If I remember correctly.  Sadly, RK passed away several months ago.  Given this, the site might have been hacked / taken over by 3rd party individuals, who might put up advertising and crap to try to get some $$$ off his name from folks who still go there.   yes, it happens every day.   Not sure if any relatives etc. took over the business since then, or handling of the website.

J.r.r  unfortunately that kind of thing happens a lot.  A company goes under, owner dies or whatever, and some shit stain hacks the site, puts porn stuff up there to get his 10 cents a view or whatever that crap is paying nowadays to snatch the view from the honest people still going to that site.  They know that the owner is not around anymore, or has bigger problems so it might be a while before their scummy act is found.... .  I have not heard much about the future of the company.  The last I heard the family was trying to honor any outstanding orders / repairs etc that there were but haven't heard any else.

Ill ask a few folks I know who were close to him and see if i can get any information.
