Anyone up for a group buy?  If we can get some response I will contact them about a group buy and pricing.  My Santos died several moths ago and I would love to get another.  The large capacity is a definite plus.

Anytime my wife or I look at something of interest and I see the "Made in China" designation on it, I comment "Full of lead" and usually put it back on the shelf.

This one is made out of plastic (probably with lead filler)

I don't see a voltage rating.... is this a 110V 60 hz or 220V 50 hz.... This would be important for most GCBC members....

I suspect 220... due to 1200 watts.

One does not necessarily follow the other.  The heater on the OCS brewers is 1400 watts, and the Poppery I is 1500 watts, as are many hair dryers.

My 110V electric kettle in my office is 1200W and 1.5L, so that is probably a decent comparison.  It was made in China, too (like there's much of a choice these days...).

Here was my concern.... make sure you request a 110 volt version...

Sounds like my wife when I wanted needed to set up my 2-group La Cimbali at home - "There's a 220 outlet in the utility room, just over the cat box, that you can use." Can you picture my cat lighting up if he misses the cat box & whizzed on the cord? It brings to mind Chevy Chase's cat in Christmas Vacation! LOL

Ha - I do the same thing, however I always say it's full of Melamine :-P

1.5L. That's a big one.

1.5L is just a smidge over 50 oz., so basically it is a 12 "cup" brewer.  I'd be interested if the price was reasonable (under $60).

Voltage aside, I would not go for this for several reasons.  It is plastic, which will eventually taste bad, and the filter is nylon, which will also take on flavor, and leak fines.  I would bet that they label it as a coffee pot, but use it for tea (for which I would -- and do -- much rather use a good Yixing pot).

The old Santos was plastic and had a nylon filter too.  the taste was fine and the nylon lasted longer than the pot.  You just have to clean the pot and not let it stand for long (i.e. days).  I am still waiting to hear on a price.  Did get a response for manual coffee grinders.
