Vac Pot questions
« on: February 29, 2012, 06:12:28 PM »
I've been looking at getting a vac pot because they really have piqued my curiosity.
Does anyone have have good advice on where to get one for a good price? What brand? style? point me to a place to learn on how to use one?
I'm not looking for a big one since I'm the only coffee drinker in the house.
I've seen some things about stainless filters, cloth filters, glass filters, etc...  which one is better? I have to admit that the glass rod is intriguing and currently what I'm leaning towards.
I know there are vac pot experts in the house, any thoughts and anyone got a spare they are willing to part with?

Quite litterally if you are talking about the end of the brew cycle.

I really like the Yama 5-Cup my good buddy gave me.  You can't go wrong with one of these and a Cory rod.

Rumor has it that J.Jireh's is looking to sell his, and since you're a next door neighbor, you could pick it up and see if he knows how to use it.

Thanks for the re-direct to the other thread B|Smart. My and site searches don't get along too well.
Peter - That is the direction I am leaning, thanks for the tip about J.Jireh's I'll nag him. I know he wanted some welding done at some point...

Good luck getting a hold of him.  His email is on a constant-reloop, seeking verification that you are a real person.  You can't get off his merry-go-round.

I remember my first vac pot session.

I somehow used about 4 times more coffee than was required.....it was a blast.  8)

Still my daily go-to, with a Corning or Cory rod.  Bamm!

I can't speak for Yama, Cory or any other than Nicra. Stainless steel and works like a champ.  I don't have to worry too much if it gets banged around a bit that it will break.

If you like a nice flavorful, oily cup of coffee then vacuum pot is for you.

I've never had vac pot coffee before. How does it compare to french press?

Vac pot is way more jazzy.

Jazzy like Coltrane or maybe more like Miles Davis?

Not as strong as a french press ... but very oily and more richer flavor than drip.

I would describe a vacpot prep as very bright.  It's like shining a bright light on a piece of art.  The good and the bad will really shine.  I really like a vacpot on a fruity coffee.

I just don't like cleaning it.... PITA
