Sowden Softbrew Review
« on: May 20, 2013, 11:23:24 AM »
I have been using my Sowden now for a couple of weeks, and I have to say I really like this coffee maker.  I rank the result up there with my Yama siphon.  I had relegated my Yama to the occasional weekend because of the time it takes.  And I need to get coffee into my wife's hands ASAP in the morning.  To do otherwise ... well, let's just say it wouldn't be pretty.  (The things you do for love.)

Anyway, my routine:
relatively course grind, 68g
filtered water just off boil, 1.3 L

Wet the coffee, wait ~ 30 seconds, slowly pour over the remaining water.  Set the timer to 5 minutes.

I then use a rinsed hario paper filer and dripper to filter out the fines into a preheated carafe.

I would put the result near my Yama.  Very happy with this purchase.

I agree that the Softbrew is a great brewer. I still use mine frequently. Also make an excellent tea brewer.

The boss here at "Patti's Park" uses the Sowden when I'm not home. It's easy for her and she doesn't like cleaning the vac pot (like Milo) or making coffee in the vac pot. We also take it traveling with us.....
