Fresh Roast SR540 and SR580

Fresh Roast is redesigning their SR series roasters. The new SR540 is available for preorder with an expected delivery by the end of the month. The SR540 has a bigger roast chamber than the previous models to promote better circulation of the beans. It also has nine heat setting versus the three in previous models. The SR540 will have the same roast capacity as previous models but the SR580 will have a roast capacity of 8oz. I emailed Fresh Roast about the release date of the SR580 and was told they are working on the chaff and smoke system before they go full production. They have also released a roast chamber extension for previous models that will allow you to roast more and improves circulation. The roast chambers is already available and initial reports have been positive. When the SR580 comes out I?m thinking about grabbing one to play with.

Has anyone used one of these yet?

I currently use an SR-500 and I get close to what I want. I was really bummed when I saw that they ditched the USB control and profiling options of the SR-700, but I never upgraded because it lacked all-important thermocouples. I guess this should motivate me to finally put together the PID popper that I have all the parts for, but the larger batch size appeals to me to roast for my wife whose only criteria for coffee is it has to be FTO.
