Nomad portable espresso machine GCBC Admin Review
« on: April 25, 2016, 01:00:27 PM »
I just received word that i will be getting my hands on a Nomad espresso machine for review. The contact I have let me know that these can replace a La Pavoni. I am extremely excited to get this and put it through it's paces. Having owned a Europiccola I am extremely interested if it solves a few issues I had with manual levers.

Stay Tuned.

edit: Nomad Arrived about 2 days ago....

Filming this evening. Redoing the footage for the Handpresso as well. I will have some iPhone video place holders up later this evening most likely.

I want to see the vid where you have the cup in the center but pull the shot out of the corner onto the table.  ;D

This video does not exist and a recreation of the event would look forced and fake.

Very nice work on the intro. Everything it should be for the club! :)

It is a nifty little machine. How well do you think it would do, in regards to weight, size and functionality, with something like hiking the Appalachian Trail?

It is a nifty little machine. How well do you think it would do, in regards to weight, size and functionality, with something like hiking the Appalachian Trail?

Wouldn't be my first choice for Backpacking the PCT or Appalachian. Of the travel espresso machines I tested for Backpacking:

1. Minipresso- best for weight and comes with its own cup, packs into itself.
cons- might break if dropped etc..

2. Handpresso, Heavier but still light, compact enough, better espresso, A bit bulky but would work, no built in cup.

3. Nomad- Best espresso - beats the Handpresso in that regard, Light enough, strong enough, bulky and no real way to break it down or pack it conveniently without sacrificing food, or clothing etc.. No provided cup. The way the pump pulls the shot is amazing!, I think it could be revolutionary if it was taken seriously. A real alternative to the lever vs. Pump.

So for Hiking it really comes down to Minipresso for me. I plan on writing more detailed reviews, so you don't have to pay attention to all my thoughts on video.

Best Car Camping espresso or if you have enough room in your suitcase for hotel espresso etc...Nomad. If you need an all around convenient, high quality, easily packed and basically meets a lot of needs I think the Handpresso is perfect.

Nice review Joe and a really interesting device. Do you happen to know the size of the filter basket?  I would say the deal breaker for me is the price point. Just seems to me the price should be more on par with the Handpresso. It's more than twice what I'd consider a reasonable price. It's a good niche market so it will be interesting to see how well the product moves.
Cheers,
Chris

Sorry for the late reply I have had a lot of distro's going on.

I have heard 49mm, 50mm, 49.2mm I think it is the same as the La Pavoni.

It's not unreasonable when the cost of the La Pavoni is what it is. It's new tech, completely different that what is currently out there with the way it pulls the shot. Would I think it would sell better/more volume at say $100 less? Sure. But if you want a cheaper alternative that does a fair job- Handpresso or minipresso can get the job done for less money. If you want something that will probably work for most people considering a La Pavoni or lever...Then this is the market they are targeting I think. If I was choosing $300 or $700 for a la Pavoni, I would pick this.
