Favorite Food Grade Lubricant?

Probably, yet again, putting too much thought into an insignificant detail, but I gotta be me...

What do you use? I know Dow 111 gets a lot of press, but there a few alternatives available.

We use some stuff at work.  I think its silicone based and is food safe or food equipment safe.  Ill have to look for the name next time I get a can to spray down some switches.

I assume you mean for coffee gear?

I'm also a Dow 111 fan.

Careful with petrol gel, it has a lower operating temp (185F) than dow 111.

Whoa, very interesting point, which I had never picked up on.
Guess I will be moving the Petrol Gel out of the pile of espresso stuff and replacing it with the Dow 111 to be safer.

Thanks for that !!!

I decided to go ahead and spring for the Dow 111, since it will probably be a lifetime supply. I was ordering from Amazon when I notice that there are 2 different tubes. The one I was going to order has the description of "Dow Corning Silicone Valve Lubricant & Sealant 111" tube the tube says "Molykote". The products that actually say "Dow" on the tube are quite bit more expensive.

Is there a difference or is it the same product in different packages?

I got a tube long ago from Chris Coffee. It's Haynes Lubri-Film Plus - Extended Performance Sanitary Lubricant.

It seems to do the job just fine.

The Molykote indicates that it is designed for "very low temperatures"....For what that is worth in your considering.

MOLYKOTE® 33 Dow Corning. The MOLYKOTE® 33 is a phenyl-methyl silicone grease ideal for very low temperatures. It has an off-white colour. It features a load carrying capacity rate of 1200 4 ball weld, N and a dropping point rate of 226 °C. It has a shelf life lasting up to 1800 days.

That's Molykote 33. Not sure if that's the same as the 111. I did find this blurb on Londinium Espresso:

"Dow Corning 111, or Molykote 111 as it is known in European markets"
