Basic newb to roasting so take my comments with the obvious precautions, but I seem to have no issues with my huky.   I added a variac for fan control and am using roast master to monitor temps and with the stove control, and the fan control, I can hit profiles pretty close after only about 5 tries.

I have been following the larger roaster threads including the upcoming group buy for,the us roasters, but so far I am failing to see why I would want a larger roaster.   I can roast enough in a few sessions a week for 2-3 families to have coffee....

I suppose if your selling coffee or have LOTS of friends I get the larger ones.    Maybe they actually roast. Uch better and I just don't understand....but 1500 vs 6000 for just my home use seems to be too much of a gap.

One of the guys at CoffeeCon who home roasts had pretty good things to say about the Huky, as long as you have a good, controllable heat source.

What was he using for the heat source?

He doesn't roast on a Huky, he has a Mini 500, but mentioned propane or even a butane stove like you use for hot pots as a good source... butane is approved for use indoors unlike propane, but has a tendency to drop pressure as the fuel is used.  He mentioned that there's some setups that warm the butane cylinder to compensate for the loss of pressure, but I don't really have any more information than that.

Got it.  Thanks.
It was Henry's Mini that had me interested in going to CoffeeCon in the first place.
Once I realized I was in lala land on that subject I decided to stay home....
