It is great for use, pretty consistant grind for a hand grinder.  The peugeot grinders are quite common out here.

What's it to be used with? If you're considering pairing it with an espresso machine, the grind quality isn't an issue; it's a matter of adjustability & convenience. To get the most from an espresso machine requires a grinder that is infinitely adjustable; and that adjustability must be simple, because a good barista will adjust the grind all day long.

I have a few hand-grinders and will use them when storms knock out the electricity, but I would wouldn't dream of using one regularly to make espresso.

force rendered the Rancilio dead.

knock on wood..doesn't happen.

Yeah ... those things are similar to the Zassenhaus famous grinders in terms of quality.

Yeah, they're great little grinders - if you don't mind looking like a fiddler-crab!

Yeah, cooties in the grind chamber!

I just have visions of a barista using one of these all day, every day.

Suit yourself.  Since you have one, any time you want to find out what it's good for, you might consider supplementing your "knowledge" gained here with some practical experience.

Since it was a gift, I recommend that you actually do that right away, and further that you keep at it until you can report some success, at least French press or something.

I'm with donn....  if you find the right grind for french press or vac pot or at the table pour over then it is the perfect addition to that after dinner scene when you fresh brew some coffee for your wife.. (and the occasional guest) and if it does a fair job on espresso... than you have your rocky backup as well...

not quite as adjustable as a Zassenhaus, but they are great little grinders.  very good for French Press or pour over.

I use my Zassenhaus all the time, not my primary grinder, but still used ~weekly.

Of course that would not happen but if the power ever goes out ... you'll be smiling ear to ear to have usage of one of those babies while you boil some water on your BBQ.

I used my wife's grandmother's old German hand grinder after Ike came through last year. I wasn't complaining about the work then!  8)

After a few turns I hooked it up to my cordless drill. Hey, if I wanted to work I wouldn't have retired! ;)
