I was browsing some coffee related pictures and I cam across a picture of a Ethiopian coffee and it re-spurred my interest in finding disc roaster. That would be a cool thing to take to the Farmer's Market and roast coffee on the spot.

I started searching Google again and I finally came across plow disk cookers. This is exactly what I am looking for. It is basically a plow disc, either purchased as a "blank" with no center hole punched out, or made by using a standard plow disk and filling in the center hole by welding in metal. Both types need the intended cooking surface thoroughly sanded down and seasoned like a cast iron skillet. Here's some DIY instructions.

Of course there are people who sell premade plow disk cookers. One of the first site that I ran across, and still has the most impressive wares after all my research, is Southwest Disk. The prices aren't too bad (considering a "blank" plow disk retails for about $37) and they look great:

Disc-it is is another company that sells premade dics cookers. You fully customize these cookers. And they sell a device that could be used as a drum coffee roaster!.

I tried to find the blank plow disks in my area but nobody seems to be able to get them. I can order them from various farm supply stores online, but they are heavy and expensive to ship. There are a lot of forms in my area so I think I will raid one of them for a cheap plow disk and then just have the hole welded closed. If all else fails I'll have a new cooking device to make fajitas!
