Capresso MT 500 plus
« on: March 31, 2010, 03:32:21 PM »
Okay so I posted earlier and got a link to a very informative topic. Now I am considering one of these. Opinions, this would be for morning coffee before work. Thanks again for all the help.

If you live near a Tuesday Morning store, they are now selling the MT 500 for $ 99.  It is an absolute steal at that price.

Over 200 will get you the Technivorm.  Mostly no one will tell you that is not a good machine.

OCS, Bunn, Capresso all under $200.

Only the Technivorm and OCS are SCAA approved as far as I know.

Can't go wrong with either ... except one is almost twice of the other.  Check out the features that they both have and determine which is good for you.

Hope that helps.

I have used a Capresso MT 500 plus for a couple of years and am very pleased with the brew it produces.  Thermal carafe is good - keeps the coffee hot for ~ 3 hours and marginally drinkable for about 5.

+1 - The only caveat I can add to this is that I really needed to prewarm the carafe with hot water before making less then a full pot of coffee. If I didn't do that the single or two mugs would be too cool because the cold carafe sucked the heat out of the freash brew. The water temperature for brewing is certainly hot enough to get a proper extraction.

According to what I have read elsewhere, please note that the SCAA no longer endorses coffeepots.  The test that was done was back in 1999, if I recall correctly.  SCAA says that because of the possibility of model changes, you cannot extrapolate the endorsement of 1999 to the present day.  They have not repeated the tests or endorsement since 1999.

I was at a Tuesday Morning store this afternoon and they had about ten of the Capresso MT 500 plus for $99.  This is the same price that Capresso sells reconditioned ones for.

Thanks for the heads up.  So there are no official pots approved by the SCAA anymore.

Perhaps that's just as well.
