Brew Apparatitis
« on: February 22, 2012, 05:54:26 AM »
Yeah, I am thinking about a lever machine.. More gizmos to play with can never be bad right?

So, what would be a good intro lever? I keep eying the Peppinas on eBay for $300 but is that right price? How do they compare to the la pavoni offerings?

The Olympia is just too much for me right now.

Have you considered the Ponte Vechio?

If we're talking about the Sama/PV Export then you have competition as I've been looking for one :-)
But you want to read up on the rusted bolt problem on the Export.  That's the one machine that
Doug/OE will no longer work on due to that problem, it ends up being a major time sink.

I'm not interested in a Lusso, I need something w/ a small footprint.

Check CL&eBay postings ... there is a La Pavoni available in Boulder, CO asking $350 OBO.

Hmm, the Caravel would be cool. I like the idea of it being manual. Any guess how much they go for?

Ebay.it

Around 200-250 euros shipped.

You can get by without a 220v transformer by pouring boiled water into the kettle, 110v will keep it at temp but it's s l o w.  My kill a watt sees 140w when running in 110v. With 220v, it's very fast.

You should read the threads on HB as there are some minor differences in build quality over the years, older is better,  but otherwise they are identical functionally.

it's likely the only espresso machine that never needs descaling.

Not sure if you saw this on CG yet you would have to stretch you budget a little.

Yeah, still trying to figure out if I want a Pavoni. I have a friend with one he isn't using. I may try o snag it even though it is a brass/copper one which doesn't look as nice to me.

Met up with my buddy to get the Pavoni. He forgot the portafilter:(

Anyhow it is a premium model and includes a froufrou attachment, wood knobs and handles and a pressure gauge.

If I like it, how much should I value it at? It may need a rebuild.

I'm thinking if you can get it for 3-4 hundred it would be a very fair price.

Not sure I am going to snagg it. The build quality isn't impressing me much. I will still clean it up, do some shots and get it ready to sell for my friend.

I guess I am spoiled by my Vivaldi:)
