Maybe, but then again some people grow accustomed to, and learn to like stale coffee or beer made with lots of cheap filler.

You wouldn't have left that Vac Pot group if you really believed that advise completely when they started extolling the virtues of canned coffee.

But you've made my point - if that's what they like why ask them to change? My grandma made a pot of chicory-laced coffee every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Grandpa loved her coffee and few people ever convinced him to change his opinions after he'd made up his mind about something.

And I left that group because their standards were lower than mine. I decided that I didn't want to waste my time trying to educate their palates.

I would think that every machine has its nuances and a learning curve to go with it no matter what brand. But I would like to believe that through the years someone out there has developed the reputation as the "Cadillac" of espresso machines. Who fills the bill?

How much do you want to spend?

Too many variations of what we call espresso machines for there to be a definitive top dog. Do you prefer a single boiler, double boiler or heat exchanger? Do you want a manual or spring-loaded lever machine? Maybe you'd like an E61 lever machine instead of a 3-way solenoid valve. How about the dosing of a semi-automatic vs. a volumetric automatic?

Pick your poison.

That question has as many answers as there are people out there with opinions.

What is your budget? What usage do you have for it? Have you had espresso before? Do you want to go big or small? What grinder are you matching up wiith it?

Those are some important questions to consider.

Price is not a limiting factor, the type or size of the boiler I am indifferent about. Ideally it wouild be nice to have a short list of machines, lets say three or four to think about.

1) La Spaziele Vivaldi II, with Compak K10 grinder.

$3500 total, and you're golden.

I am way too predictable.  But Mr. Bean asked, so what would you expect.

If price is no problem, then let's talk about space. My coffee nook is 48" wide and it's getting a bit cramped, and as gear goes my stuff is pretty small. Do you have room for a BIG espresso setup?

I have room but thats a great point to bring out, the Mrs. would probably have a fit if I "cluttered up the house", of course that is her opinion.... I could probably go with about the size you have in your photo.
