GCBC *** 20th Anniversary *** Celebration
« on: January 13, 2025, 04:19:13 PM »
Good Afternoon Everyone:

2025 will be the 20th year (AFAIK) that the Green Coffee Buying Club has been around.  Our first post was in 2005, and the website / forum was put up then so we'll call that the inception of GCBC.

20 Years is a LONG LONG time !!!  We have witnessed many... countless coffee outlets, co-ops, etc come and go. The forums come and go, on and on and on.  Many predicted that the GCBC would be a flash in the pan and would be gone as well VERY soon.  See, we weren't very popular back in the day.

Well, the test of time proved OTHERWISE.
Today we are over 2000 members strong!
The Green Coffee Buying Club stayed right where it was put, and if I have anything to do with it, it will continue to stay right where it is !!

One of the main reasons I believe we have lasted so long is because we are sincere.  We are not snobby doofus' who pretend we are better than everyone else, in fact we kind of aim the other way !  ;D  ::)  just ask Bubba!!

This "Club" is made up of YOU.
The posts are posted by YOU.
The knowledge comes from YOU.
The experience is YOUR's.
The experts are YOU.
The critics are YOU.
This club is YOURS.

This is YOUR club, plain and simple, I really just pay the bills if we are to be totally honest, and try to keep the mess going :)

This club and it's pages are also a museum, a history  archive.  You can go back to 2005 and SEE the very first posts people made here, and what was popular, what worked and what didn't.  Who was roasting what, and how.  Remember Moki farms, Green Stripe?  I do!

See, roasting coffee at home, home-roasting, wasn't always as popular as it is now, and is rapidly growing to be !!  It used to be a niche kind of thing that some goofy people did in their back yards.  Many of the coffee roasters you see for sale today, got their roots from some of the stuff we did in here back in the day.  Ron Kyle of RK Roasters was one of the first pioneers with his RK drum, may he rest in peace.  You can see / read us testing these roasters when they were in development among other countless other coffee gadgets, contraptions and inventions.  This is part of why we try never to delete anything, (except spam and just ignorance), because it's ALL part of history!

Sadly, many of the earlier pioneers are no longer with us, so this site also serves as a memorial, and a testament to them.
It's a living proof that yes they have been here!! and have left a very positive note on the world, and is here as a tribute and a remembrance of those who have passed on.
So Please take a moment to remember our roasting ancestors. (Some of whom may have been roasted themselves before being fed to the coffee trees) cough cough cough.

With that being said,   >:D  I wish to celebrate us being here for 20 Years !!!

So to do so, I am going to be giving out silver coins to random members who order coffee!
(Yes, yes I KNOW silver Anniversary is 25 years but hush you!! )  Bubba nebber been good at maff !!

This is basically how I plan to work this event:

A.  You buy coffee from me the exact same way you have been doing so, for the last 2 decades!

B.  If you won, I'll include a 1 oz silver Round / Bar / Coin, whatever in with your coffee order.

I am doing this as a Thank YOU for being a loyal customer for 20 years, and because I think it's going to be fun !

The silver I am giving you is Real !!  It is a 1 ounce PURE silver coin, that you can cash in at any coin shop or refinery in the world, (although Id hope it's value as an item would have you keep it!).  Why would you keep it???  who knows, when the REAL Silver anniversary comes around, I may have a surprise for those who DID win them and still have them to sell back to ME !!   >:D

Think of it as an investment in your future, silver / gold NEVER lose their value like paper money can.
******

This is how I am going to pick the winners.:

Each bag of coffee I buy that is 125 Lb or more of coffee, I am going to use a Random Number Generator system, to gen a number from 1 to 125.
I am going to pair up bags, as I get them, so we are working with 250 Pound Lots.   2 x 125.

I will add up the two RNG's from the 'Bag Pair' and that is the magic number that wins.  That is the "Pounds Sold" that will trip the win on that bag pair.

For example:

1 Bag of Sulawesi -  the number is 45
1 Bag of Sumatra -  the number is 118  ...as an EXAMPLE !!!

The magic number for that 'Bag Pair" is  118 + 45  or = 163.
(However YOU will not know what this number is until it's won to keep it fair)

You can buy as much as you want.
You can buy as little as you want,
You can place 1 order, you can place 10 orders   -  It don't matter.

As coffee is sold out of BOTH of those bags, the Lbs are added up.  5.....10......20......45....50 and on and on.

Once 163 Lbs of coffee have been sold out of BOTH bags, again it don't matter how much from each, what matters is the total of BOTH.
The person who's VALID order took that 163rd pound, will be the WINNER !

This winning number of course is going to change with EVERY BAG PAIR as I gen up new numbers for each new bag of coffee!
Because of this, you will never know which number will win, which bag will win, so there is no way to game the system or figure out how / when to place your order etc.

- A valid order is an order placed via PayPal, (AND posted to the forum!!! Don't FORGET THIS PART!!)  that has NO issues, is Paid in Full and is Shipped, or picked up in person. - once an order is 'validated' those numbers go toward the prize counters.

IMPORTANT:
If there are problems with the order that I have to DM you for address', asking what did you order, asking you to send more money because you boffed your math (again), etc etc, then the numbers do NOT count until the order becomes good.
This means that someone can potentially come in behind you and have a good order and get the coin, so please make sure your orders are done properly THE FIRST TIME, for the best chances!.

FAQ:

How many times can I win?
A.  As many as you want and are lucky enough.

Can I buy like 400 Lb of coffee to guarantee a win?
A.  Well, yes, if you buy THAT much you are pretty much guaranteed to win a coin!

Can I win a coin for ordering more than 1 type of coffee?
A.  YES you can.  If you happen to hit the lucky pound on each coffee(pair) then you win that coin.
Technically, you could order 5 Lbs of 3 different coffees, and win 3 coins if you are VERY LUCKY !!

When do the numbers get generated:
A.  The number gets generated when the bag is received in my possession and validated.  The numbers are created long before ANY posts are made or sales are made on that bag.  It is all set up BEFORE the first sale is made on that bag, so EVERYONE has a FAIR CHANCE at it !

When will the contest end?
A.  That I don't know.  I plan on doing probably 5 or so coins at first, but if it's a big hit, I may continue it longer, possibly even indefinitely if everyone loves it.  We'll just have to gauge how well this is received by our members.

This should pretty much cover enough of everything to get us started !!

If you have any questions please post them  HERE.

AS coins are won, I will post the name of the person and lucky Lb that won it here
They will be posted as / after I have sent out the coin TO the person.

If you win a coin, PLEASE post a picture of it HERE, preferably with you holding it, showing it off etc etc.
At the end of the year, those who have posted pictures of themselves with their prizes, will be eligible for a different prize !!
(I would like this as kind of a proof that coins ARE going out and people ARE getting lucky, and we ARE having fun!!)

Let's get this celebration kicked off !!

The Silver Celebration is  NOW LIVE !!!

Well, let me spill the beans ... metaphoraically, or is it?    >:D O0

We have two more winners.
one got their package already and the other should see it today or tomorrow maybe.

Michael Wilkinsa
Mixhael Sims

Congrats both of you for winning a silver coin.
HAPPY 20TH FROM GCBC.

Glad you are here to celebrate with us.

Please post a picture of your goodie so we all can see!

Also..

Folks, i got a lot more coffee i am going to be posting over the next month or so  AND I got plenty of coins to give away too.

IN the process of getting it all logged in, sorted, labeled, bagged, getting pricing index set up, got to make sure price is not the same as any other coffee.  i do this so that  when people order coffee and don't put down what they ordered, which, unfortunately is fairly often, i can look at the price and go.  oh, he wanted 10 lbs of this.

this is all time consuming.
then i have to roast it, rest it, cup it, get a writeup done, compare notes with royal, sometimes call them and go, hey, these are my notes and sometimes roast a second or even third time so i know i nailed it and can passon to you, what works best so YOU are not wasting pounds of coffee trying for the god shot...i already went there!!  then post cupping notes, fill in the offering sheet make sure the links are correct and working, post it and then deal with the second half when the orders start pouring in.pay pal, ups, people not sending me their address or contact info, all takes time...

currently i am sitting on over 3000 lbs of coffee.  NO I DID NOT TYPE AN EXTRA ZERO. A ton and a half.  I had to go big to keep prices lower.  yes this is part of what i do to get you the prices at reasonable rates.  i have probably 15 000 dollars tied in coffee now.  IF the blueberry hits solid like i think it will. well that one alone ,that's another 1000 lbs or MORE I'll be grabbing on top of what i got now!!

anyways, im busy busy busy here ,so with luck i don't waste half my life in the doctors offices and can concentrate on working thru my broken hands and ruptured disks to keep it flowing outwards.

IF I DO, end up needing surgery, well that'll be a good 3 months with nothing to do BUT sell coffee...well minus the first month, that one is just bad, you really can't do much except mope around feeling miserable, but lets hope we don't go there.

im hoping by wednesday im at a placr where i can get what's not done yet, roasted, so all thats left is rest, cup then post

I'LL KEEP YOU POSTED.

THANK YOU

Aaron

20 years!  No wonder Aaron's fingers fell off.  I received my order of three coffees today, and found the coin inside.

Congratulations to the club!  What lasts is real.

Big picture coming up...
