An update - since this brewer is designed to make larger pots and I usually make smaller amounts I was interested in it's 0.75L (~24 fl oz) performance specs so I tried this amount of water combined with 40g (wanted 45g but ran out of the sample beans) fine ground coffee brewed through a permanent filter.

From the first drops of water hitting the grounds till the last drips into the pot the time measured 4 minutes on the nose. The coffee was very hot and very good.

Since I am able to get decent 500mL and 30g pots extracted in the 3 minute and change range, I find the BV-1800 is a capable 4 cup brewer - with extra head room if you need it.

Saw one on display at Intelli in Chicago.  Very clean lines.

Folks, a friend has this machine.  He asked me what permanent filter the group could recommend for him.

Thanks, B|Java

The Swiss Gold/Frieling #4 cone works in my version of this brewer. I am not sure what else besides a cheaper gold tone type #4 cone (Medalco, etc) is even available. Anything that can replace a #4 Melitta paper filter should work though...
