Even tho' you crank it by hand, based on everything else that's out there, it's almost not far to call this a hand grinder.  Here's why I say that; every other hand grinder seems to take forever and your arm gets tired pretty fast.  My Compak has similar burrs (68mm, but who knows what the cutting edges are on mine vs. the Pharos), it spins at 300rpm, and can churn out 16g in about 5 seconds.  So say you crank the Pharos at 100rpm, you'd have enough for a double in about 15 seconds.  15 seconds seems very doable compared to a Zassenhaus.

Listen man. I'm really trying hard to talk myself out of even thinking about getting one of those grinders. You are not helping things.

Early adopters, this might be a logical traveling road show/lottery item.  It is not something I would use so I won't be moving in that direction.  HeadChange on the other hand...For once, Tex might be right.

Ummm . . . it looks like the back inner portion that houses the burrs is boxed in by 3 long screws that run the length of the whole grinder. Any idea how you actually get the coffee out of the thing once it is ground?

You hold it over whatever you're dumping into, and rap it on the back with the supplied rubber mallet...

At first I thought you were kidding about the rubber mallet and then I read where that is furnished.  For me, the "dump and rap" doesn't go with $250.  I have looked at this thing 12 ways from Sunday and don't get it.  I would have to have hands on to see how it works -- but then, I will leave that to HC4U and his photo-narrative from KY so we can all understand.  Call it a pyramid learning style.

After watching that video, I think I am all in!
I have already had mt 2nd issue with my Vario,
(1rst was user error, 2nd machine malfunction),
and I have to admit to being tired of it being shelved
while waiting to be repaired.  In each case, I have turned
back to my trusty hand Kyocera mill.  But the Kyocera grind nut will
move during grinding making it ineffective for dialing in espresso.

This solves the issues of the lack of consistent grind.  But that hammer
and the whacking is still a bit unsettling.  Just not sure how this will go over
at 6am in the morning while everyone is still asleep.

May have to enter in the Bingo Long Traveling All Stars product review...

I find it hard to believe that you cannot slide the grind tray out . . . you think a lever would be in place that you could just flip up to unlock and gain access to the grinds. I can not see myself buying a $250 dollar grinder to turn it sideways and start bashing on it hoping all of the grinds fall out of the tray. I think I might wait for the Giza (Pharos II). Very cool concept though. I am sure with feedback from the first / second round of people who purchase it they will make a few changes.
