I think my basket filter is larger than my US cleaner... guess I need a bigger cleaner.

I never thought of that!  I have a 13L US cleaner, and when I have it out for one thing I usually try to look for other stuff to run through it.  You're a genius, Chris!

But if you use paper filter you can do this....

Gee ... that sounds like it would be a worthwhile project. Making a filter that takes a few hours to brew a 5 minute pot of coffee.

You can get an US cleaner from Harbor Freight for about forty bucks.  Their larger one and they actually do work fairly well.  I believe the company that makes them is called Chicago Electric?  I have had one for several years and my coffee filters and stuff fit right in.  I use it all the time to clean my swiss golds when they got grungy.

I think I posted elsewhere about instead of paying  6 bucks for like 8 ounces of 'coffee pot' cleaner to use in the thing,  that Ph UP for pools, it's the same ingredient for like 6 bucks for several pounds.

You will rinse thoroughly after cleaning so it works extremely well.

I have a Bonavita BV1800 that I've been using for about six months.  I brew using 64 grams of coffee with a gold mesh filter.  Sometimes I wonder if another auto drip would do a better job or not.  I thought I'd list my likes and dislikes and see what other people had to say about their makers.

Likes:
Brews coffee at the correct temperature, according to my Thermopen.
Easy to use and easy to clean.
Brews a full 40 oz of coffee in five minutes.
No electronics so nothing to fail in that area.

Dislikes:
The shower head is too close to the grounds.   A lot of time the bloom rises high enough to envelop the shower head which makes a mess on the shower head.
The water doesn't flow evenly through all the water outlets in the shower head. You get a steady stream through the center, but the outer outlets are a hit or miss affair.

I agree with this completely as I have the same machine, 1 more dislike the thermal caraf keeps the coffee hot for like 1 hour and warm for maybe an hour longer. This might not be a big deal for most, but after the Newco and Black and decker.... this sux. Otherwise the coffee is awesome

One thing I have found with drip coffee makers, and yes this includes the vornie.. if you start out with warm or even hot water in it, the overall 'throughput' of water is a bit higher and that can sometimes help with the shower head dispersal if you have issues there.

I can't remember the name of it, it was a coffee forum I was at years ago, (not SM's) but I posted a kind of a 'airgap hack' for drip pots where the hot water runs through the cold water resivoir and gets cooled down.
Long story short, put a piece of tubing over it to put an 'air gap' between the hot water and the cold water in the resivoir, that keeps the hot hotter as it passes thru to your spray head.

Ok ill shut up now.

I have the larger HF unit that I could part with.  Used a half dozen times before I outgrew it.

Dang, that looks bigger than a breadbox.  Will that count as carry-on?

Doubt it.
